One person was killed, and two others were injured after a fire broke out inside a hunting supplies shop in the city of al-Dumayr, Rif Dimashq, on Friday, October 2.

The Syrian Civil Defense said that one person died in an explosion caused by materials inside the hunting supplies shop, which was followed by a fire at the site.

The official al-Ikhbariya channel reported that two other people were injured in the explosion. Internal Security forces were also deployed to the area and launched an investigation into the circumstances of the blast.

Teams from the Emergency and Disaster Management Directorate in Rif Dimashq responded to the incident, extinguished the fire, and recovered the victim’s body, according to a statement issued by the Civil Defense on Friday evening.

The teams also secured the site and placed warning tape to prevent civilians from approaching, while notifying war remnants clearance teams at the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management to secure the area and protect residents from potential hazards.

Abdul Latif Barakat, director of operations at the Adra Industrial City Center of the Emergency and Disaster Management Directorate in Rif Dimashq, told the official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) that emergency and disaster management teams in al-Dumayr and Adra Industrial City responded immediately after receiving the report. They extinguished the fire, carried out cooling operations, and confirmed that there were no additional injuries.

Barakat said the teams found the body of a person who had died as a result of the fire inside the shop. The body was transferred to al-Mouwasat Hospital, while unexploded ordnance clearance teams were dispatched to the site to inspect the area and carry out safety and security procedures.

Rise in Explosions

Explosions have occurred with increasing frequency across several Syrian governorates over the past week, with varying causes.

An officer and a soldier from the Ministry of Defense were injured on Friday when a war-remnant landmine exploded in Deir Ezzor.

Enab Baladi’s correspondent in Deir Ezzor reported that two members of Ministry of Defense engineering teams were injured when a landmine exploded as they were dismantling a minefield left behind by the former regime near the town of al-Husseiniya, north of Deir Ezzor city.

The two were transferred to hospitals in Damascus due to the severity of their injuries, according to the correspondent.

An explosion of unknown cause also struck the gas pipeline at the Tishreen Thermal Power Plant in Eastern Ghouta, Damascus, on September 30, knocking the Deir Ali, al-Nasiriya, and Tishreen power plants completely out of service.

The Syrian Electricity Company said the explosion and resulting fire halted the gas supplies needed to operate the three plants.

The Syrian Electricity Company said on Saturday that the sudden shutdown would lead to a noticeable decline in the amount of electricity generated at the Deir Ali, al-Nasiriya, and Tishreen power plants, temporarily worsening electricity rationing hours because of the resulting shortage in available generation capacity.

On September 28, the gas pipeline running between the al-Shoula area and Deir Ezzor, which includes facilities and pipelines linked to gas transportation and production, was subjected to an act of sabotage that caused a sectional valve on the pipeline to explode, according to the Syrian Petroleum Company at the time.

Also on September 28, one person was killed when a hand grenade in his possession exploded as Internal Security forces were pursuing him in Aleppo city’s al-Mashhad neighborhood.

The Aleppo Security Correspondent Facebook page reported that the grenade exploded while the man was attempting to use it to escape security forces, who were pursuing him over alleged drug dealing. The page also published photos of narcotic pills reportedly found in his possession.

Mohammad al-Saeed, director of the Internal Security media office in Aleppo, told Enab Baladi at the time that the man had been dealing drugs.

Al-Saeed added that the man had been involved in a dispute with another person. When security personnel arrived at the scene, he attempted to activate a hand grenade he was carrying, prompting the personnel to move away to avoid endangering civilians and security members.

According to al-Saeed, the man then moved to another location and attempted to handle the grenade but was unable to reinsert its safety pin. The grenade exploded, killing him.
