Israeli forces shot dead a young man with a disability during a military incursion into Jamlah (western Daraa governorate, southern Syria) on Thursday, October 22, according to Enab Baladi’s correspondent in Daraa.

The correspondent said an Israeli patrol consisting of approximately 15 military vehicles entered Jamlah and searched several homes. The young man, identified as Mouaz Salama al-Ba’ir, was found shot dead after the patrol withdrew from the village.

According to information provided by the correspondent, Mouaz, who had a disability, was walking through one of the village’s neighborhoods during the incursion when Israeli forces opened fire on him. They then transported him, while he was wounded, to Tal Abu Ghaithar, a gathering point for Israeli forces north of Wadi al-Ruqad.

The correspondent added that the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) informed the Syrian Civil Defense of the young man’s death and the handover of his body, which was later transferred to Nawa National Hospital.

In a related development, Syria’s al-Ikhbariya television channel reported that Israeli forces deployed snipers on the rooftops of civilian homes in Jamlah and fired indiscriminately in residential neighborhoods while searching houses during the incursion.

In a separate incident, Israeli forces targeted the outskirts of Abidin (western Daraa countryside) with two tank shells, according to Enab Baladi’s correspondent.

Israel Announces Killing of “Suspect”

The Israeli military had previously announced that it killed a person it described as a “suspect” who allegedly attempted to infiltrate a military position in the security “buffer zone” near Hamidiyah town (Quneitra governorate, southern Syria) on October 5.

The Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation reported that soldiers spotted the “suspect” approaching the position and opened fire after identifying him, killing him. No Israeli soldiers were injured, and the military position sustained no damage.

Meanwhile, Enab Baladi’s correspondent in Quneitra reported that Israeli forces in Hamidiyah instructed the village head to come and identify the body. However, when he arrived, they prevented him from seeing it. Residents then contacted the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) to verify the report and identify the body.

The Israeli military confirmed that its forces would continue operational activities and maintain heightened readiness in the area to prevent any attempts to target Israeli troops operating across the border.

It also emphasized that it would continue operating in what it called the “protection zone” in southern Syria and eliminate any “threat to Israeli citizens and military forces.”

Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, meanwhile, reported that a 22-year-old Palestinian from Damascus was shot dead by Israeli soldiers after approaching a Syrian border position and attempting to find a way to enter.

Israeli Incursions Continue

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) documented at least 453 ground incursions by Israeli forces into Syrian territory, along with 69 deaths and 162 cases of arbitrary detention, between December 8, 2024, and October 6, 2026.

In a report published on October 8, the SNHR said the incursions were concentrated primarily in Quneitra and Daraa governorates, and to a lesser extent in Damascus countryside. It noted that the figures represent the minimum number of incidents it was able to document using its violations database, field monitoring, witness testimonies, and open and official sources.

According to the report, Israeli military operations evolved during the documented period from limited movements near the separation lines into repeated incursions into populated villages and towns. These operations involved killings, injuries, detentions, and raids on homes, as well as attacks on media workers, medical personnel, and humanitarian workers, including Syrian Arab Red Crescent teams.

Under its documentation classification based on the responsible party, the SNHR attributed 12 cases, including one involving a child, to Israeli forces, representing approximately 92.3% of the total recorded cases.
