Two security incidents occurred in Quneitra governorate (southwestern Syria) on Saturday, October 24. One involved a young man killed by a landmine left over from the war.
Israeli violations also continued in the area, with the detention of three young men from Jubata al-Khashab (northern Quneitra countryside).
The Quneitra Media Directorate said a young man from Taranja (northern Quneitra countryside) was killed by a landmine left behind by the former regime.
It added that the incident occurred while he was grazing sheep in fields around the village.
Enab Baladi’s correspondent reported that the young man was originally from Deir Ezzor (eastern Syria) and was living with several families in the “al-Amal Farms” area of Taranja for work.
A similar incident occurred in Quneitra on August 19, when a person died after a cluster munition left over from the war exploded in Naba Alsakher (Quneitra countryside).
Explosive remnants of war are among Syria’s greatest security concerns. They continue to cause casualties because of their widespread presence following years of war.
Israeli violations continued in the governorate, which borders the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
Enab Baladi’s correspondent reported that Israeli forces detained three young men from Jubata al-Khashab in the northern Quneitra countryside.
The correspondent said the Israeli army detained Ali Ahmed Hussein Bakr and Mohammad Ahmed Hussein Bakr while they were grazing sheep. The third detainee’s identity remained unknown at the time of publication.
The Israeli army had set up a temporary checkpoint at the Jubata al-Khashab quarries junction. It also carried out raids and searches in Al-Samdaniyah al-Sharqiya (central Quneitra countryside), where it established a checkpoint to search passersby.
Protests took place in several Syrian governorates to condemn Israeli incursions into the southern governorates of Daraa and Quneitra and the killing and detention of Syrians, particularly following the killing of a young man with a disability.
Enab Baladi correspondents reported demonstrations on Friday, October 23, in Daraa, Quneitra, al-Hasakah (northeastern Syria), Raqqa (northern Syria), and Salamiya (Hama countryside, central Syria).
Calls for protests were also observed in Homs (central Syria), Masyaf (Hama countryside), and several locations in Damascus and Damascus countryside.
Demonstrators carried signs condemning Israeli incursions and the detention of Syrians from Daraa and Quneitra.
Hundreds of Syrians attended the funeral on Thursday, October 22, of Mouaz Salama al-Ba’ir, a young man with a disability who was killed by the Israeli army in Jamlah (Daraa countryside, southern Syria).
Al-Ba’ir was found shot dead after a patrol of approximately 15 military vehicles withdrew from Jamlah, where it had carried out an incursion and searched several homes.
Snipers were deployed on civilian rooftops during the house searches, according to Enab Baladi’s correspondent in Daraa.
According to information relayed by the correspondent, Mouaz, who had a disability, was walking through a neighborhood in the village during the incursion when Israeli forces opened fire on him. They then took him, wounded, to Tal Abu Ghaithar, an Israeli military assembly point north of Wadi al-Ruqad (southern Syria).
The correspondent added that the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) informed the Syrian Civil Defense of the young man’s death and handed over his body, which was later taken to Nawa National Hospital (Daraa governorate).
