The Israeli army released three Syrian detainees from Daraa and Quneitra governorates on Wednesday, August 19.
Enab Baladi’s correspondent in Quneitra said the release came more than a year after the three were detained in Israeli prisons.
Those released are Mahmoud Mohammad Mazid al-Breidi, from the Yarmouk Basin area (western Daraa countryside), Mohammad Qassem Mohammad al-Jumaa, from Eastran Al-Samdaniyah (central Quneitra countryside), and Imad Saud Jassem al-Hteimi, from the Rasem al-Qata area, which belongs to Suwaysah (southern Quneitra countryside).
Incursion and Arrest in Jubata al-Khashab
At the same time as the three detainees were released, Israeli forces carried out an incursion, raid, and arrest operation early Wednesday in Jubata al-Khashab (northern Quneitra countryside).
Enab Baladi’s correspondent in Quneitra reported that an Israeli force comprising more than 100 personnel and about 15 military vehicles entered the town from the Jubata al-Khashab forest base and searched several homes.
The forces detained two residents of the town and took them to an unknown location before later releasing one of them. No information was available about the reason for the other person’s detention or where he was taken.
The raid, which took place during the night, caused panic among residents, according to the correspondent, because of the size of the military force, the entry of vehicles into residential neighborhoods, and the searches of homes.
Repeated Calls for Releases
The release of the three detainees came two days after families of Syrians detained by Israel held a protest in front of the headquarters of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force, UNDOF, in the Naba al-Fawar area (northern Quneitra countryside) on August 17. They demanded information about the fate of their relatives and called for their release.
During the protest, the families called on the United Nations to intervene to determine the fate of their relatives and press for their release, amid a lack of information about where some are being held and their families’ inability to contact them.
Israeli forces had released Ahmed Abdul Hamid al-Karyan and Mizer Majed al-Hutaimi, both from Suwaysah, on August 5 after a year in detention.
They also released four people from Quneitra and Daraa governorates in July after nearly a year in detention.
More than 40 Syrians from Quneitra, Daraa, and Rural Damascus governorates remain detained by Israel, including minors.
