Patrols from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) raided the town of al-Tayana (eastern Deir Ezzor countryside, eastern Syria) on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, seizing quantities of fuel and detaining several local workers.

Enab Baladi’s correspondent in Deir Ezzor said four SDF armored vehicles entered the town and carried out a sweep targeting workers operating river ferries that move passengers and goods across the Euphrates River. The forces seized around 30 barrels of diesel and arrested four workers from the area.

In the neighboring town of al-Sabha (eastern Deir Ezzor countryside), the SDF conducted another raid in the al-Azib neighborhood with air support from the US-led International Coalition, detaining two people, according to our correspondent.

Areas of Deir Ezzor’s countryside under SDF control periodically witness security campaigns that the SDF says target Islamic State group cells. Meanwhile, residents accuse the SDF of carrying out arbitrary arrests and confiscating property under the pretext of combating smuggling.

Previous campaigns

On September 13, 2025, the SDF carried out raids and arrests that targeted several people in the towns of al-Jadid Akidat (eastern Deir Ezzor countryside) and al-Shuhail (eastern Deir Ezzorcountryside).

At the time, Enab Baladi’s correspondent in Deir Ezzor reported that six people were detained in al-Jadid Akidat and al-Shuhail. According to the correspondent, the detainees were Aysar Turki al-Atish, Amjad Turki al-Atish, Sutaif Jamoul al-Hneish, Hafez al-Zaidan, and Karim Aayed al-Atish. The correspondent noted that the fate of the five detainees remained unknown as of publication.

In al-Shuhail, the SDF raided the home of 18-year-old Hussein al-Tamayyuzat and arrested him under Coalition air cover. Residents told Enab Baladi that the young man is a civilian who had not joined any faction or engaged in any prior military activity.

Ongoing tensions

Tensions continue in the towns of eastern Deir Ezzor amid continued arrests and accusations that the SDF is committing violations against residents in the area.

On September 11, 2025, the al-Shaitat tribe called for general mobilization against the SDF after accusing the forces of killing a young man and withholding his body in the town of al-Gharanij (eastern Deir Ezzor countryside).

Enab Baladi’s correspondent in Deir Ezzor reported at the time that the SDF executed the young man, Hakim al-Rafi’ al-Khaleef al-Abd al-Hasan, in the field after he allegedly refused to stop at one of its checkpoints. The patrol withheld the body and refused to hand it over to the victim’s family, according to residents.

A video circulated on social media showed calls for “jihad and general mobilization” broadcast from mosque loudspeakers in al-Gharanij.

The al-Shaitat is an Arab tribe from the Aqidat al-Zubaydiya confederation, spread across Deir Ezzor province in eastern Syria, with an estimated population of 70,000 to 90,000, led by Sheikh Rafaa Akleh al-Raju
