The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Thursday, October 16, that they carried out two security operations in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor (eastern Syria), dismantling two Islamic State cells and arresting several of their members.

In a statement published by its media center, the SDF said its Commando Units, in coordination with the US-led International Coalition, conducted the first operation in the village of al-Burayha, part of the al-Basira area.
During the raid, the forces arrested a member accused of carrying out attacks against military forces and civilians in the area, and seized weapons and ammunition in his possession.

In another operation in the village of al-Sabha in eastern Deir Ezzor countryside, the SDF said it dismantled a “terrorist cell” and arrested two of its members accused of involvement in attacks targeting its forces, security personnel, and civilians.

On October 14, Enab Baladi’s correspondent in Deir Ezzor reported that the SDF carried out a raid in the al-Azib neighborhood of al-Sabha with air support from the International Coalition, arresting two individuals. The coalition has not yet issued a statement about the operation.

The SDF affirmed its continued coordination with the International Coalition to pursue Islamic State cells and prevent activities threatening the security and stability of northeastern Syria.

Ongoing cooperation

Over recent months, the SDF and the International Coalition have carried out several operations against leaders and members of groups designated as terrorist organizations in Syria, including airdrops and precision strikes in Idlib, Aleppo, and Deir Ezzor provinces.

On September 22, the SDF reported conducting 70 coalition-backed operations against the group, including three large-scale clearance missions. Ninety-five individuals were arrested, among them three leaders.

On September 30, the International Coalition and the SDF conducted an airdrop operation in the town of al-Shuhail (east of Deir Ezzor), resulting in the arrest of civilians. Local sources told Enab Baladi at the time that the town had no Islamic State activity.

A similar operation took place in al-Shuhail on October 2 but failed to achieve its objectives, as the wanted individuals, reportedly linked to the Syrian government, were not captured.

Additionally, SDF Tactical Operations Units (TOL), in partnership with the International Coalition, conducted a security raid in the town of al-Mansoura (west of Raqqa city) to dismantle an Islamic State cell.
According to the SDF’s media center, the operation followed extensive monitoring of the cell’s movements. After encircling their hideout, the forces arrested two wanted members, Abdul Sattar Abdul Fattah al-Muhammad, known as “Abu Amira,” and his brother Mohammad Abdul Fattah al-Muhammad, known as “Abu al-Baraa”, both from al-Mansoura.
