An Israeli force of more than ten vehicles advanced into the village of Abidin, in the Yarmouk Basin area of western Daraa countryside, at dawn on Thursday, September 4.

Enab Baladi’s correspondent in Daraa reported that the force raided two houses in the village, searched them, and then withdrew without recording any arrests.

On Wednesday, September 3, an Israeli army force also advanced into northern Quneitra countryside (southern Syria), in a continuation of similar incidents in the province.

According to Enab Baladi’s correspondent, seven young men under the age of 23 from the village of Jabatha al-Khashab were arrested and taken into the occupied Golan.

A media activist from Quneitra previously confirmed to Enab Baladi the arrest of the youths, without information about the reason, noting that such arrests have been repeatedly occurring in recent weeks.

As of the time of publication, there has been no official Syrian or Israeli statement regarding the detainees.

Abidin under threat

On August 21, Israeli forces arrested three young men from Abidin in the Yarmouk Basin area of western Daraa countryside.

Enab Baladi’s correspondent in Daraa reported at the time that an Israeli force raided a house in the border village adjacent to the Syrian Golan and arrested Mohammad Abdul Aziz al-Masri, Ziad Abdul Aziz al-Masri, and Omar Abdul Aziz al-Masri on charges of weapons possession.

A source from the village, who requested anonymity for security reasons, told Enab Baladi that Israel possesses lists of individuals accused of possessing weapons or of former affiliation with armed groups.

Since the beginning of August, Israeli forces have intensified raids in the village, previously detaining two youths before releasing them after several hours, according to Enab Baladi’s correspondent.

Raids in Daraa

In March, Israeli forces detained farmers in the valley of the town of Kuya while they were working their land, later releasing them after several hours and instructing them to deliver warning messages to residents not to go down into the valley, according to one of the detainees.

On July 2, Israeli forces detained three young men from the villages of Umm al-Luqas and al-Basali, accusing them of working for a Hezbollah-affiliated cell, before releasing them several hours later.

On July 7, Israel announced that it had carried out a “special” operation in the area of Tel Kodneh in southern Daraa countryside, during which it arrested a cell accused of working for the Iranian Quds Force. It also arrested six individuals in southern Quneitra countryside, in the villages of Ain al-Zaytoun and al-Dawaya al-Kubra, on charges of Hezbollah affiliation.

On July 22, Israel announced the arrest of two Syrians it said were arms dealers in southern Syria, after investigations based on intelligence information.

On June 12, the Israeli army announced the arrest of individuals it claimed were affiliated with the Hamas Movement in the town of Beit Jinn, southwest of Damascus.
