A government delegation met with the elders of Jaramana in the Rif Dimashq province following the armed confrontations that took place in the city over the past hours. The two sides agreed on a set of provisions to end the escalation.

The Jaramana News Network, a news page specialized in covering events in the city, reported on Tuesday, April 29, that Mohammad Ali Amer, an official from the Eastern Ghouta area, attended the meeting as a representative of the Rif Dimashq Governor, Amer Sheikh, alongside the political affairs official in the Rif Dimashq governorate, Ahmad Tumeh.

Representatives from civil and local society in Jaramana were present at the meeting, along with elders from the Druze community in the city, as representatives of Jaramana.

According to the news page, the parties agreed on a set of provisions which are:

  • Ensuring the restoration of rights and compensating the families of those who were killed in the city as a result of the confrontations.
  • Committing to hold accountable those involved in the attack and to present them to the judiciary accordingly.
  • Clarifying the truth of what happened through media and limiting incitement in all its forms.
  • Working to secure traffic between the governorate of Damascus and the governorate of As-Suwayda for civilians.

The Syrian Alikhbaria channel reported the text of the agreement, indicating that the government would begin implementing the provisions outlined in it immediately.

Jaramana experienced armed confrontations that lasted for hours, following the widespread circulation of an audio recording on social media that contained insults directed at the Prophet Muhammad, attributed to one of the Druze community’s sheikhs, who later denied the claim.

The al-Raased news page reported on Facebook that Jaramana was attacked by armed groups, resulting in the deaths of six people and injuries to 15 others.

In a separate post this morning, it was added that the General Security Forces of the Ministry of Interior worked to disperse and contain the clashes, while sporadic sounds were still heard coming from the al-Malihah axis.

According to Enab Baladi, the main entrances to Jaramana remained closed, while intermittent gunfire continued on the al-Malihah axis east of the city.

Various religious, political, and military figures in Jaramana and As-Suwayda issued statements condemning the audio recording that spread via social media and condemned the attack on Jaramana.

The spiritual authority of the Druze community in Jaramana called on the Syrian government, in a statement, to issue a statement clarifying the situation and held it fully responsible for what happened and for any subsequent developments or exacerbation of the crisis.
