Israeli warplanes launched airstrikes early today, Friday, February 21, targeting border outlets between Syria and Lebanon in western Homs countryside.
Israeli Defense Forces spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, stated that Israeli warplanes struck transportation hubs on the Syrian-Lebanese border used by the Lebanese Hezbollah in an attempt to transport weapons into Lebanon.
Adraee added that Hezbollah’s attempts to transfer arms through Syria constitute a blatant violation of the ceasefire agreements between Israel and Lebanon.
Local pages published a video showing the moment of the Israeli bombardment on the Wadi Khaled area on the Syrian-Lebanese border.
On its part, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that Israel bombed illicit crossings between Syria and Lebanon in Wadi Khaled in western Homs countryside early today.
The observatory stated that Israel targeted the al-Wawiyat crossing bridge in the town of Wadi Khaled, causing it to go out of service.
The attack came after a convoy of smuggling vehicles was spotted coming from Syria toward Lebanon.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese news agency reported that Israeli aircraft flew at low altitude over the city of Hermel and villages in northern Bekaa, located adjacent to the Lebanese-Syrian border.
The Israeli bombing of areas in Syria marks the third of its kind this month. On February 19, Israeli aircraft struck positions in the Sas’a area of the Damascus countryside, where Israel claimed it struck military positions of the ousted regime.
Adraee stated at the time that Israeli Air Force planes targeted combat equipment belonging to the ousted regime in the Sas’a area.
The newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth quoted an Israeli military spokesperson stating that Israeli aircraft hit two tanks of the former regime’s army in southern Syria.
Israel also announced on February 8 of this month that it carried out airstrikes in Syria, claiming it targeted a site of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in the Damascus countryside.
Adraee mentioned that warplanes from the Air Force struck an arms depot belonging to Hamas in the Deir Ali area of southern Syria.
Since the fall of the Syrian regime on December 8, 2024, Israel has struck dozens of military sites belonging to the ousted regime’s army across different Syrian provinces.
Simultaneously with the bombardment, Israeli forces advanced into southern Syria, and they continue to be positioned in part of the area until today.
The Israeli military has destroyed many Syrian military sites in southern Syria, Damascus, Latakia, Homs, and Aleppo following the fall of Bashar al-Assad, which Israel considers preemptive measures to prevent those sites from falling into the hands of “extremists” and to ensure its security, according to its claims.
