The Israeli occupation army has withdrawn from some points it entered in the Quneitra governorate in southern Syria following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

A correspondent for Enab Baladi in Quneitra reported that the occupation army withdrew on the evening of Sunday, February 2, from the governorate building and the palace of justice.

The correspondent mentioned that there are reports of Israel also withdrawing from the al-Mantara Dam and the village of Qudna, but this has not been confirmed, as military vehicles of the occupation army were observed working in the mentioned locations this morning.

Photos circulated on social media of the areas from which Israel withdrew showed the destruction and burning of equipment belonging to the Syrian state (computer devices).

The Israeli presence in Syrian territory began hours after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime on December 8, 2024, as Israel advanced into several areas in southern Syria, particularly in the Quneitra and Daraa governorates.

The Israeli occupation army is working on establishing six military bases in the Quneitra governorate in southern Syria, five of which are within the buffer zone established by the 1974 agreement, and one outside of it.

According to the Enab Baladi correspondent, the most recent base under construction is located in the Jubata al-Khashab area in northern Quneitra (within the buffer zone), while the base being built outside the buffer zone is in the Qudna area in southern Quneitra.

The other points are distributed across two bases in the Hadar area (one northeast of the city at Taloul al-Homr and another northwest at Qars al-Nafal), a base between the villages of al-Hamidiyah and al-Hurriya, and a base at the al-Mantara Dam.

The Israeli incursion was met with public rejection, as the transitional Damascus government also demanded Israel withdraw its forces and adhere to the 1974 agreement.

Civilians in the Quneitra governorate have faced several violations by the Israeli army.

On Friday, January 31, the Israeli occupation army arrested two young men from the village of Trinjeh in northern Quneitra.

On January 24, the Israeli army arrested a civilian and injured another by opening fire on them around the village of Qudna in southern Quneitra.

In mid-January, a civilian was killed, and two others were injured due to an Israeli drone targeting a convoy belonging to the Military Operations Administration in the village of Ghadir al-Bustan, located at the administrative border of Quneitra with Daraa.

On December 25, 2024, civilians were injured in northern Quneitra, southern Syria, after the Israeli army opened fire on them during a protest against the Israeli incursion into the area.
