Israeli forces arrest civilian, injure another in Quneitra
The Israeli army arrested a civilian and injured another by shooting at him in the vicinity of the town of Qudna in the Quneitra countryside in southern Syria.
A correspondent for Enab Baladi reported today, Friday, January 24, that two individuals were gathering firewood around Qudna when the Israeli army opened fire on them, resulting in the injury of one named Hamza al-Tahan, while the other person (a relative of Hamza) was arrested, with no information available about his condition or whether he was injured.
Regarding Hamza, he was transferred to a medical center in Quneitra province, and his injury is superficial, according to the correspondent.
Local accounts on social media platforms, including “Quneitra Today,” reported that two young men were injured by direct gunfire coming from Israeli army personnel while they were clearing areas in Qudna forest and cutting down forest trees.
Hours after the fall of the previous regime and the escape of its ousted president, Bashar al-Assad, to the Russian capital Moscow on December 8, 2024, Israel invaded several areas in southern Syria, particularly in Quneitra and Daraa provinces.
On December 25, 2024, civilians were injured in the Quneitra countryside due to the Israeli army opening fire on them as they participated in a demonstration protesting the Israeli incursion in the area.
In the middle of this month, one civilian was killed, and two others were injured as a result of an Israeli drone targeting a convoy belonging to the Military Operations Administration in the village of Ghadir al-Bustan, located on the administrative border between Quneitra and Daraa provinces.
The Israeli occupation army is working on establishing six military bases in Quneitra province in southern Syria, five of which are inside the demilitarized zone designated by an agreement from 1974, and one outside it.
According to Enab Baladi’s correspondent, the most recent base under construction is located in the Jubata al-Khashab area in the northern Quneitra countryside (within the demilitarized zone), while the base being built outside the demilitarized zone is in the Qudna area in southern Quneitra.
The remaining points are distributed across two bases in the Hadar area (one in Taloul al-Homr northeast of the city and another in Qars al-Nafal northwest of it), a base between the villages of al-Hamidiyah and al-Hurriya, and a base at the al-Mantara dam.
The interim Damascus government has not taken any military action against the Israeli incursion and has not addressed the matter of establishing the bases.
