Since the dawn of last Wednesday, opposition factions announced the commencement of a military operation they named “Deterrence of Aggression” in response to the regime’s repeated bombardment of northwestern Syria. Its goal is to expand secure areas in preparation for the return of displaced people.
The fighting factions are part of the al-Fath al-Mubin Operations Room, the most prominent of which is the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which holds significant influence in the region. Other groups and battalions, including the Artillery Brigade in the Sham Front, have also declared their support for the ongoing operation.
Opposition factions continue to advance after entering Aleppo and taking control of its international airport, expanding their area of control and engaging in battles in Hama countryside, where they have taken control of Suran, Taybat al-Imam, Halfaya, and Mardes.
