Opposition factions announce control over western Aleppo countryside
Opposition factions announced their control over the entire administrative area of the western Aleppo countryside, two days after launching their operation “Deterrence of Aggression” against Syrian regime forces and allied militias.
The leader of the Military Operations Administration, which orchestrates the attacks, Hassan Abdul Ghani, stated that the factions fully seized control of the western Aleppo countryside after “intense” battles against regime forces that lasted for more than 36 continuous hours.
Abdul Ghani mentioned today, Friday, November 29, that specialized teams in demining are continuing their operations to clear and secure the areas captured from the remnants of war, and until that is completed, the western Aleppo countryside will remain a closed military zone.
Military factions launched the “Deterrence of Aggression” operation on Wednesday, November 27, during which they captured villages and towns in the western Aleppo and eastern Idlib countryside, reaching the outskirts of Aleppo city and cutting off the international highway “M5”.
In the southeastern Idlib front, opposition factions seized Kafr Battikh, the oil plant barrack, Dadikh, Joubas, Miznaz, Kafr Dael, al-Barqum, Babis, Bashqatin, Bashnitra, al-Kuseibiyah, and al-Arbikh.
The Military Operations Administration closed the areas captured by the factions on Thursday until further notice, to ensure the removal of mines and military remnants.
The factions managed during their operations in the western Aleppo countryside and eastern Idlib to seize 27 tanks, six BMP armored vehicles, three mortars, five anti-aircraft machine guns of 23 mm caliber, a stock of Kornet anti-tank missiles, and six military Zil vehicles, according to Abdul Ghani.
The factions destroyed four rocket launchers, a tank, and a vehicle loaded with personnel, while the Shaheen Brigades, specialized in drone operations during the “Deterrence of Aggression,” destroyed two helicopters at the al-Nairab airport, killing over 100 members of the regime forces and allied militias.
In contrast, regime and Russian aircraft launched airstrikes targeting residential areas in the Idlib and Aleppo countryside, along with artillery and missile shelling, resulting in civilian casualties, according to the Syria Civil Defence rescue agency, the latest airstrikes on al-Atarib led to the death of 11 civilians and the injury of five others.
The Civil Defence requested that civilians disperse gatherings and reduce movement.
Areas in the western Aleppo countryside and regions in Idlib adjacent to the front lines experienced displacement to safer areas within northern Syrian regions before the commencement of military operations.
