Al-Assad issues law for employing top university graduates as teachers
The head of the Syrian regime, Bashar al-Assad, has issued a law allowing the appointment of more than 10% of top graduates from all relevant departments in the public education system to the Ministry of Education as teachers or classroom instructors without a competitive exam.
The official Syrian news agency (SANA) reported on Wednesday, November 27, that the law bears the number (35) and aims to benefit from top university graduates in public schools.
This comes after it was approved by the People’s Assembly during its session held on November 21.
The law covers graduates in mathematics, physics, and chemistry in various specializations, as well as English, French, and Russian languages and their literature, and classroom teachers.
According to the law, other specializations may be added based on the ministry’s needs and “the requirements of the smooth operation of the educational process,” ensuring the rights of graduates upon their appointment, according to SANA.
The law allows graduates to choose between appointment in the province where they obtained their high school diploma or in the province where their college is located, with appointments being made by a decision from the Minister of Education according to available vacancies.
Graduates appointed may not be transferred outside the province where they were assigned, nor may they be tasked with non-educational jobs until ten years after their appointment.
This law will take effect from the new academic year 2024-2025, according to the agency.
The law follows just one day after the Syrian regime established a new Ministry of Education according to Law No. (31).
This ministry is responsible for implementing the state’s overall policy and directives regarding education at the pre-university level.
All employees of the former ministry are automatically transferred with their vacancies to the new ministry.
Accordingly, the new Supreme Council for Education will be established, headed by the Minister of Education, who will appoint one of the employees in the ministry as the Secretary and Rapporteur of the council.
