A car explosion occurred on the road connecting the Mowasat Tunnel and Kafr Sousa Roundabout in Damascus today, Tuesday, September 17, resulting in four injuries.

A source at the Mowasat Hospital in Damascus informed the local Al-Watan newspaper that four people, some with serious injuries, arrived at the hospital due to the explosion near the Mowasat Tunnel, without providing details about the cause of the explosion.

In the same context, the Sawt al-Asima website reported that the incident in Damascus was caused by a wireless device explosion belonging to a member of Hezbollah while he was in a car between the Mowasat Tunnel and Kafr Sousa Roundabout. This coincided with the explosion of wireless communication devices carried by Hezbollah members in several regions of Lebanon.

The site added that seven Hezbollah members were injured in Sayyidah Zaynab due to the explosion of wireless communication devices (pagers) they were carrying.

A Hezbollah official told the American Associated Press that several of the party’s fighters were injured in Syria when the communication devices they were carrying exploded.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that several Hezbollah members arrived at hospitals in Damascus and its countryside, suffering from injuries resulting from the explosion of communication devices they were carrying.

The explosion in Damascus coincided with a series of explosions in Lebanon due to an Israeli cyberattack targeting communication devices used by Hezbollah members.

Reuters reported, citing security sources, that more than a thousand Hezbollah members, including fighters and medics, were injured when the pagers they used for communication exploded.

A Hezbollah official told Reuters (requesting anonymity) that the pagers explosion was “the biggest security breach” the party had experienced during almost a year of clashes between the party and Israel.

The cyberattack also injured the Iranian ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, according to Iran’s Mehr news agency.

Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reported that several injuries occurred in Beirut’s southern suburb and other areas including towns in Marjayoun and Hermel districts, due to the explosion of pager devices held by their carriers using “high technology.”

The Lebanese health sector demanded that all medical workers urgently report to their workplaces to contribute to providing emergency treatments for the large number of injured people being transported to hospitals.

This incident comes at a time when tensions between Lebanon and Israel are escalating, with almost daily clashes between Hezbollah and Israeli forces for more than 11 months due to the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
