One military personnel was killed and seven others were injured in an Israeli strike targeting sites in Damascus and Homs today, Thursday, October 24.

The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported, citing a military source, that Israel launched an aerial assault from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan and from northern Lebanon.

The strikes targeted two points in the Kafr Sousa neighborhood in Damascus and one military site in the Homs countryside, resulting in one military casualty and seven injuries, along with material damage.

The Russian agency “Sputnik” reported that after the sounds of explosions were heard around the capital Damascus, fires broke out at a fuel station due to the Israeli attack.

SANA did not clarify the sites that were hit, nor did it provide live images from the targeted locations, while the Sawt al-Asima (Damascus Voice) website posted images of flames in an area it claimed was targeted in Kafr Sousa, simultaneously indicating that the bombing that struck Homs, central Syria, occurred near the town of al-Shinshar, south of Homs.

The attacks happened at 3:40 AM, and Sham FM radio reported that ambulances and firefighting teams were spotted in the streets of Damascus after the strikes.

Al-Masnaa border crossing

Two days ago, Israeli warplanes carried out raids targeting a site near the Masnaa crossing on the Syrian-Lebanese border, marking a second such targeting within 24 hours, after an Israeli drone struck the vicinity of the hills of the town of Beit Jinn in southwest rural Damascus with two missiles on October 21.

Israel has not announced any attacks within Syrian territory.

On October 17, Israeli warplanes targeted one of the sites near the southeastern entrance of Latakia city, resulting in civilian injuries and material damage to the surrounding private properties.

This was the second such targeting following an attack on the vicinity of Hmeimim Airport about two weeks prior.

The Russian Sputnik agency reported at that time that Syrian air defenses intercepted “hostile targets” off the coast of the city of Jableh in the Latakia countryside on October 3.

Israel has repeatedly targeted sites in various areas of Syria over the past years, but the frequency of the strikes has escalated following the Israeli escalation in southern Lebanon, which turned into a large-scale war on September 23 last month.
