An explosion occurred inside a prison of the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) on the road between Qamishli and al-Qahtaniya in northern al-Hasakah province. Reports indicated that the explosion was due to a Turkish airstrike targeting a vehicle inside the prison.

Enab Baladi’s correspondent in al-Hasakah reported that an explosion took place today, Tuesday, September 3, inside a prison affiliated with Asayish in the town of Umm al-Fursan, east of Qamishli, with the cause yet unknown.

On its part, Hawar news agency, close to the Autonomous Administration, stated that the explosion resulted from targeting a car inside the walls of the detainees’ prison in Umm al-Fursan.

It added that Asayish of the Autonomous Administration imposed a security cordon around the targeted prison, noting that Umm al-Fursan prison is designated for detainees under investigation by the Internal Security Forces.

Qamishli’s fire brigade reported on its Facebook page that its members managed to extinguish a fire in a Toyota car near a prison in Umm al-Fursan village, which resulted from a Turkish drone strike, causing material and human damage.

Turkey has not claimed responsibility for the bombing of the area until the time of writing this report.

On August 28, Qamishli witnessed a similar explosion. Initial information indicated that it resulted from a Turkish airstrike targeting a car inside the city, though it was later revealed to be caused by an explosive device that killed two people, according to Asayish at the time.

Meanwhile, the North Press agency quoted an unnamed security source stating that “a Turkish drone targeted a car near the area around the Heart and Eye Hospital.”

Turkish attacks frequently target areas under the control of the Autonomous Administration, the political umbrella of the SDF, as Ankara considers them an extension of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which is listed on its terrorist lists.

On August 19, the Autonomous Administration said in a statement that the Turkish military escalation in areas under its control in al-Hasakah province threatens the region with an “open war.”

The statement followed a Turkish attack near the Heart and Eye Hospital in Qamishli, which caused fatalities and injuries, according to the same statement, noting that the shelling aims to disrupt the development of service and health sectors.
