The Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, heads to Syria, a week after an Israeli attack targeted the Iranian consulate in Damascus.

Reuters reported today, April 8, that Abdollahian left Oman towards Damascus, following a visit that began yesterday, to Muscat, during which he met his Omani counterpart and a representative for the Houthi group.

Abdollahian said through “X” that he met his counterpart, Badr Albusaidi, and Mohammed Abdul Salam, the head of the negotiating team of the Yemeni National Salvation Government.

The two separate meetings discussed the development of relations between Tehran and Muscat, and the agreements concluded between the two sides, in addition to the latest developments in the region, and the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.

During a joint press conference with his Omani counterpart, Abdollahian considered that the “terrorist” missile attack launched by Israel on the Iranian consulate building in Damascus represents a new page of war ignition by the “Zionists” and dragging others into conflict and war in the region, as reported by Iranian media, including the IRNA agency.

On April 1, an Israeli raid targeted the Iranian consulate building adjacent to the Iranian embassy in Damascus, resulting in the complete destruction of the building and the death and injury of everyone inside, according to the Syrian regime’s Ministry of Defense.

Iranian leaders and officers

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced the death of two of its leaders along with five of their companions during the Israeli targeting.

Tasnim agency, quoting the public relations of the IRGC, stated that the killed were the advisor generals, Mohammad Reza Zahedi, and Mohammad Hadi Haj Rahimi, in addition to five advisors and officers: Hossein Amir Allah, Syed Mehdi Jalalati, Mohsen Sedaghat, Ali Agha Babaei, and Sayyed Ali Salehi Rouzbahani.

For his part, the Israeli Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, said yesterday, Sunday, that Israel is ready to deal with any scenario that may arise from Iran, and this came after repeated Iranian threats to respond and retaliate after the killing of its leaders in the consulate building in Damascus, where an Iranian official previously considered that Israeli embassies are not safe.

Besides the Iranian victims, the targeting also resulted in the death of six Syrians, raising the death toll to 13 people, according to the official Iranian television.

For its part, the United States, the United Kingdom, and France opposed, on April 3, a draft resolution formulated by Russia in the United Nations Security Council to condemn the attack on the consulate, considering that the facts of what happened are still not entirely clear.
