The Jordanian authorities announced today, Tuesday, December 5, the killing of three smugglers during the foiling of an attempt to smuggle quantities of drugs coming from Syrian territories.

According to the Jordanian news agency Petra, an official military source in the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces stated that the Eastern Military Region conducted an operation to seize large quantities of drugs coming from Syria within its area of responsibility.

The source mentioned that the border guard forces observed an attempt by a group of smugglers to illegally cross the border from Syria to Jordan. Quick reaction patrols were mobilized, and direct shooting rules of engagement were applied against them.

In the meantime, 233,000 Captagon pills and 528 cannabis bags were found and handed over to the relevant authorities.

Less than a week later

This operation comes less than a week after the Jordanian customs seized over half a million Captagon pills during an attempt to smuggle them into Jordan through the Jaber border crossing with Syria.

According to the spokesperson of the Jordanian Customs Department, on November 29, the customs personnel at the Jaber border center foiled an attempt to smuggle 565,000 Captagon pills. The illicit drugs were carefully hidden in a truck, which underwent thorough inspection in a specially designated area.

As drug smuggling continues from Syria, announcements by the regime’s Ministry of Interior about the arrest of people involved in this trade persist. The latest development in this regard was the Ministry of Interior’s announcement of the arrest of a drug dealer in Latakia on Monday.

At the same time, neighboring countries are making efforts to reduce these smuggling operations. The 37th Arab Conference of the Heads of Drug Control Agencies was held in the Jordanian capital, Amman, on November 1, organized by the General Secretariat of the Arab Interior Ministers’ Council (AIMC).

The Jordanian Minister of Interior, Mazen al-Faraya, praised the role played by drug control agencies in Arab countries in confronting and combating this menace in order to prevent attempts to cultivate, produce, and smuggle drugs in the Arab region, as reported by the Jordanian Public Security Directorate.
