Jordanian authorities announced the injury of one of the most dangerous drug dealers and smugglers, and the confiscation of quantities of drugs in the Rweished brigade, located at the border triangle between Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Syria, affiliated with the Mafraq governorate bordering Syria.

Al-Mamlaka TV channel reported today, Saturday, June 29, that a spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate stated that a joint special force raided a location in the Rweished brigade after gathering information and identifying the location of one of the most dangerous drug dealers and smugglers.

The spokesperson added that the wanted individual initiated gunfire before the engagement rules were applied, leading to his injury and capture, and his subsequent transport to the hospital. Additionally, authorities arrested two other individuals who were with him.

During the operation, Jordanian authorities seized 53,000 narcotic pills, 125 bags of hashish, a quantity of the narcotic substance “Crystal,” and three firearms, including two automatic weapons.

This operation comes three days after the Jordanian army announced the killing of a smuggler, injuries to others, and the seizure of a drug shipment coming from Syrian territories at the border between the two countries.

In a statement released on June 26, the Jordanian army said that the Eastern Military Zone, in coordination with military security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Administration, thwarted an attempt to infiltrate and smuggle “large quantities” of narcotic substances coming from Syria.

The army added that armed clashes with the smugglers resulted in the death of one of them, injuries to others, and their retreat into the Syrian depth.

The Jordanian army cited an unnamed military source indicating that the Jordanian Armed Forces are utilizing all capacities “to strike anyone who attempts to tamper with Jordanian national security.”

On June 19, Jordan announced the downing of a drone carrying narcotic substances before it entered its territory from Syria.

At the time, Al-Mamlaka TV reported from the Jordanian Armed Forces General Command that the Northern Military Zone thwarted an attempt to smuggle a quantity of narcotic substances loaded onto a drone.

Additionally, on June 5, the Jordanian Anti-Narcotics Administration thwarted the smuggling of 9.5 million Captagon pills and arrested members of “two gangs linked to regional narcotics trafficking networks.”

These pills were seized alongside 143 kilograms of hashish, which were concealed in heavy machinery in preparation for smuggling them through the al-Omari crossing towards Saudi Arabia.

The drug issue is considered a key topic in Arab discussions with the Syrian regime to reach a political solution in Syria. However, this has translated on the ground contrariwise, with an increase in smuggling attempts over the past year.
