An Israeli drone targeted a car on the road linking Mazraat Beit Jinn and the town of Beit Jinn (western Damascus countryside) on Saturday, August 22.

Enab Baladi’s correspondent in Quneitra (southwestern Syria) reported that the Israeli drone strike injured Ammar Saeed Hamada, a member of Syria’s Ministry of Defense, while he was heading to his hometown of Beit Jinn in the Damascus countryside.

The correspondent quoted a security source in the area, who requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media, as saying that Hamada was attending to personal business and was not carrying out any military mission when he was targeted. The source added that Hamada was on leave from his military duties.

The official Syrian al-Ikhbariya channel said that a civilian was injured when an Israeli occupation drone targeted a car in the town of Beit Jinn in the Damascus countryside, without providing further details.

For its part, the Israeli army said its forces opened fire in southern Syria at a person it described as a “terrorist.”

Israeli Army Radio quoted a security source as saying that the targeted person was planning attacks against Israeli forces that had reached their final stages.

Israeli forces had carried out an incursion toward Bat al-Warda Hill near the town of Beit Jinn in the western Damascus countryside on August 18.

At the time, al-Ikhbariya reported that the incursion caused no casualties or material damage.

Israeli forces have carried out several security operations in the area since the Israeli incursion into southern Syria on December 8, 2024.

On February 10, the Israeli army announced that it had conducted an operation to dismantle a weapons storage facility belonging to the Islamic Group, a Lebanese movement, in the Beit Jinn area of southern Syria.

Thirteen civilians, including women and children, were also killed and 24 others injured when the Israeli army shelled the town of Beit Jinn in the Damascus countryside on November 28, 2025. Six Israeli soldiers were injured in the clashes.

The shelling followed an Israeli army incursion into the town to arrest several young men, which led to clashes between local youths and the Israeli army.

The Islamic Group, according to a statement published on its website at the time, rejected attempts to associate its name with any actions with which it had no connection and denied conducting any activities outside Lebanon.

64 Violations in One Week

Sijil, a center specializing in documenting Israeli violations in Syria, recorded at least 64 violations between August 15 and 21.

According to the center, the Israeli violations took place in the governorates of Quneitra, Daraa, Damascus countryside, Idlib, and Deir Ezzor.

They included six shelling operations, six instances of setting up checkpoints, seven detentions, seven raids, 15 aircraft overflights, and 19 incursions.

Quneitra recorded the highest number of Israeli violations, with 44, compared with 15 in Daraa, two in the Damascus countryside, two in Idlib, and one in Deir Ezzor.
