The transitional Syrian president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, held talks with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman al-Safadi, who is visiting Damascus today, Thursday, April 17.
These discussions came after al-Safadi’s meeting with his Syrian counterpart, Asaad al-Shibani, to address several common issues between the two countries, according to the Syrian Foreign Ministry.
The Jordanian Foreign Ministry stated that the visit aims to hold extensive discussions with President al-Sharaa and the Syrian Foreign Minister.
This visit occurs amid ongoing diplomatic activity between Damascus and Amman, marking al-Safadi’s second visit since the fall of the ousted regime of Bashar al-Assad.
Al-Safadi previously visited Damascus on December 23, 2024, where he met with Syrian officials and subsequently held a series of calls, informing the foreign ministers of Qatar, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt, Bahrain, and Turkey about the discussions he conducted in Syria.
Al-Safadi emphasized that the discussions were positive and candid, reflecting a shared commitment to cooperation during this historic transitional phase that the Syrian people are experiencing, leading to the rebuilding of their homeland, institutions, and political system, preserving Syria’s unity, stability, and sovereignty, protecting it from chaos, and freeing it from terrorism, while creating conditions for the return of refugees.
On March 9, Amman hosted a meeting involving Syria and neighboring countries, with the participation of foreign ministers, defense ministers, chiefs of staff, and intelligence directors from Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Turkey, and Jordan.
The concluding statement of the meeting reaffirmed support for the Syrian people in their efforts to rebuild their homeland on foundations that ensure Syria’s security, stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
All attempts and groups targeting Syria’s security, sovereignty, and peace were condemned, with an emphasis that Syria’s security and stability are essential for regional security and stability.
Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa had visited Jordan on February 26, where he held talks with King Abdullah II, who affirmed his country’s support for Syria in the rebuilding process, involving the Syrian people with all its components, ensuring Syria’s unity, security, and stability.
The two sides discussed opportunities to enhance cooperation and reach common frameworks to increase and sustain coordination at various levels, achieving mutual interests and strengthening Arab unity.
