Israel arrests two Syrians in Quneitra
The Israeli occupation army detained two young men from the village of Trinjeh in the northern Quneitra countryside.
A reporter from Enab Baladi stated that a young man from Trinjeh fired shots at an Israeli army patrol inside the village on the evening of Friday, January 31.
This was followed by a fire exchange from the Israeli army, which arrested the two young men and left the village towards the border area.
Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee stated that gunfire was heard and monitored in the buffer zone within Syrian territories while Israeli forces were present in the area, and “no injuries occurred as the forces continue their missions.”
Adraee pointed out that the Israeli army will remain deployed in the area and “will act to eliminate threats directed at the State of Israel and its citizens,” as he expressed it.
The Quneitra Today account, which focuses on news from the governorate, mentioned that the Israeli army stormed the village of Trinjeh and arrested the two young men Kinan Bakr and Ali Hussein Bakr. In addition, a person and his wife were injured with bruises due to the Israeli army shooting at their car while they were arriving at the arrest location.
The Israeli presence in Syrian territories began just hours after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime on December 8, 2024, as Israel advanced into several areas in southern Syria, particularly in the Quneitra and Daraa governorates.
This incursion was met with popular rejection, and the interim Damascus government demanded that Israel withdraw its forces and adhere to the 1974 agreement.
Civilians in Quneitra governorate have faced several violations by the Israeli army.
On January 24, the Israeli army arrested a civilian and injured another by opening fire on him in the vicinity of the town of Qudna in the southern Quneitra countryside.
On December 25, 2024, civilians were injured in the Quneitra countryside after the Israeli army shot at them during their participation in a demonstration protesting the Israeli incursion in the area.
In mid-January, one civilian was killed and two others were injured as a result of an Israeli drone targeting a convoy belonging to the Military Operations Administration in the village of Ghadir al-Bustan, located on the administrative border of Quneitra with Daraa.
The Israeli occupation army is working on establishing six military bases in the Quneitra governorate in southern Syria, five of which are located within the buffer zone defined by the 1974 agreement, and one outside of it.
According to an Enab Baladi correspondent, the newest base under construction is located in the Jubata al-Khashab area in the northern Quneitra countryside (within the buffer zone), while the base being built outside the buffer zone is in the Qudna area in southern Quneitra.
The remaining points are distributed across two bases in the Hadar area (one in Taloul al-Homr northeast of the city and another in Qars al-Nafal northwest of it), a base between the villages of al-Hamidiyah and al-Hurriya, and a base at the al-Mantara dam.
