Jordan resumed the movement of trucks today, Thursday, December 19, through the Jaber-Nassib border crossing with Syria, experiencing a busy scene of truck exchanges.

A reporter from Enab Baladi in Daraa confirmed that Jordanian trucks entered the free zone area on the border between Jordan and Syria but did not cross to the Syrian side, while Syrian trucks did not enter the Jordanian side.

Jordan’s Minister of Industry and Trade, Yarub Qudah, stated today that his country allows Syrians to export through Jordan under a transit system to all countries of the world.

In statements made in front of the Jaber-Nassib border crossing with Syria and reported by the Jordanian news agency Petra, he mentioned that more than 150 Syrian trucks crossed into Jordan heading towards various countries.

The Jordanian channel “al-Mamlaka” reported from Qudah that all Jordanian products can also be brought into Syria.

A reporter from al-Mamlaka, quoting officials at the Jaber border crossing, corresponding to Nassib crossing on the Syrian side, noted that the trading area witnessed the entry of 90 trucks yesterday, Wednesday, including 48 Jordanian trucks that crossed into Syrian territory.

According to Petra news agency, the Jordanian Minister of Industry announced that about 200 trucks loaded with goods would cross today into Syrian territory through the Jaber-Nassib border crossing and the joint free zone.

According to Qudah, approximately 500 trucks loaded with goods crossed into Syrian territory during the past three days.

Jordan announced the resumption of the movement of Jordanian commercial trucks to Syria on December 17. Qudah told Petra that Jordanian trucks would be allowed to enter through the Jaber crossing.

He added that this step would help facilitate “the flow of goods and shipping traffic between Jordan and Syria.”

Jordan had closed the border crossing with Syria on December 6, citing “security conditions surrounding the south,” following opposition factions’ control of the crossing from the Syrian side.

At that time, the crossing was limited to the return of Jordanians and allowed Jordanian trucks to pass while traffic for those departing to Syrian territory was prohibited.

The closure of the crossing from the Jordanian side followed the opposition’s control of the crossing from the Syrian side, following battles with the previous regime launched by the Military Operations Administration in northern Syria that led to the previous regime’s downfall.

After the opposition took control of the governance in Syria, about 100 Jordanians returned, according to Jordan’s Interior Minister, Mazen al-Farayah.

In an interview with al-Mamlaka channel on December 9, al-Farayah stated that the closure of the land crossing would continue until the security situation stabilizes on the Syrian side, noting that the Jordanian embassy in Damascus is still operational.
