Salvation Govt grants temporary settlement cards to regime defectors in Aleppo
The Syrian Salvation Government (SSG), influential in the cities of Aleppo and Idlib, has begun issuing temporary cards to defectors in the city of Aleppo who remained in the city after opposition factions took control.
The Ministry of Interior in the SSG stated today, Thursday, December 5, that it is conducting settlement operations for defectors from the regime in Aleppo and granting them temporary cards “to facilitate their movement within the city.”
The Ministry of Interior of the SSG issued a decision in Aleppo requesting its personnel to facilitate matters for the holders of the temporary card “according to the rules.”
The SSG’s Minister of Interior, Mohammad Abdul Rahman, stated on Wednesday that he met with a number of defectors who visited the departments designated by his government and urged them to “take advantage of the opportunity to settle their status.”
The SSG announced yesterday the commencement of receiving applications for issuing temporary cards for defectors from the Syrian regime in Aleppo.
Application reception centers have been designated at four points in Aleppo: the al-Saliheen, al-Shahba, Bab al-Faraj, and Bab al-Nasr police stations.
Photos published by the Free Aleppo Administration showed dozens of individuals who they said were defectors from the regime coming to obtain the temporary card and regularize their status, although they did not specify the number of applicants at the time of writing the news.
In conjunction with the “Deterrence of Aggression” operations, the Military Operations Administration, which includes factions participating in military operations in northern Syria, has reiterated its calls for regime elements to defect.
They have repeatedly called for securing defectors and ensuring their safety, according to their statements.
Opposition factions began military operations under the name “Deterrence of Aggression” on November 27 and started advancing into the neighborhoods of Aleppo from its western entrances.
On November 30, the factions controlled most of Aleppo’s neighborhoods, except for the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods, which are controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
The swift entry and control resulted in many regime elements being present in the neighborhoods that were taken over.
Since the factions entered Aleppo’s neighborhoods, the Salvation Government has assumed control over the city’s affairs and began reinstating service institutions, alongside inviting previous personnel to return to their work.
They also announced the activation of police and traffic departments, published numbers for reporting complaints, and mentioned that they deployed personnel to protect state institutions and public facilities.
The city of Aleppo has witnessed calm on its sixth day after the opposition’s entry, amid attempts to maintain security by conducting night patrols and enforcing curfews multiple times.
