Salvation Govt announces return of Aleppo bakeries to work
The Director of the Public Institution for Grain Trade and Manufacturing in the Syrian Salvation Government (SSG), Ahmad Abdul Malik, stated that all 16 public bakeries will be operated in Aleppo governorate.
Abdul Malik added on Tuesday, December 3, that 143 private bakeries will also supply the neighborhoods of Aleppo city with bread to meet the needs of the residents.
A correspondent for Enab Baladi in Aleppo city reported that the number of operational bakeries at present is extremely limited, and most of the bread is coming from Idlib city.
The correspondent also stated that the quantities of bread distributed are still insufficient to cover the needs of the population due to the large population density and the vastness of the area.
Several relief organizations and entities began launching initiatives aimed at providing essential supplies to the residents in areas controlled by the opposition factions in Aleppo city, with a focus on distributing free bread to families suffering from severe shortages of basic materials.
Among these entities, the Turkish Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) announced that it is distributing 36,000 loaves of bread daily to civilians in Aleppo and published photos showing part of the distribution operations.
It also clarified that it has managed to deliver other humanitarian aid to those displaced from the western city of Aleppo and the Idlib countryside.
This aid included setting up tents to shelter the displaced and providing food items and basic necessities to civilians, according to the Turkish Yeni Şafak newspaper.
Local organizations such as the Emergency Response organization, Basmat Amal organization, and the Hayat Volunteering Team also participated in the bread distribution initiatives in Aleppo neighborhoods.
These efforts come at a time when the city faces humanitarian challenges due to the security situation in the region, making humanitarian support essential to meet the minimum needs of the residents.
The opposition factions announced the launch of a military operation they called “Deterrence of Aggression,” in response to the repeated shelling of regime forces on northwestern Syria, aiming to expand the “safe areas” in preparation for the return of the displaced and refugees.
Last Friday evening, the Military Operations Administration of the factions participating in the “Deterrence of Aggression” operation announced their entry into the city of Aleppo and their control over the city and its international airport.
The opposition factions continue their advance after entering Aleppo, expanding their control area to engage in battles in Hama countryside.
The head of the Syrian Commission for Family and Population Affairs, Samar al-Sibai, mentioned in 2023 that the population of Aleppo city reached four million and 100 thousand inhabitants.
Aleppo governorate is located in the northern part of Syria, bordered by Turkey to the north and Raqqa governorate to the east and Idlib governorate to the southwest.
It constitutes about 10% of the total area of Syria and is the largest Syrian province in terms of population, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics of the regime government.
