Military groups move against regime forces in Daraa
Various areas in the Daraa governorate have witnessed attacks on the security and military sites of the Syrian regime, coinciding with the announcement of the opposition factions’ full control over the city of Hama in central Syria.
A reporter from Enab Baladi in Daraa stated that regime forces withdrew from the city of Inkhil in the western governorate today, Friday, December 6, following scattered strikes against military points and barriers across the province.
The city of Nawa in northern Daraa experienced clashes on Thursday around the Military Security detachment between local fighters and the detachment’s elements, with the attackers using mortars and light and medium weapons, followed by the regime’s artillery shelling of the city from Tel al-Jabiah, according to the reporter.
The local site Daraa 24 reported that two military barriers belonging to the regime had withdrawn from the village of al-Jbailiya in western Daraa toward the military base of Tel al-Jabiah northwest of Nawa.
Additionally, clashes erupted around a barrier belonging to the Air Intelligence in the village of al-Jbailiya in western Daraa, coinciding with shelling originating from the 61st Brigade in the vicinity of the clashes.
According to three intersecting sources close to the military factions in Daraa (the Eighth Brigade and the Central Committees), the military groups have concerns about the halt of military operations, but they may engage in operations against the regime forces from the southern front if the opposition factions’ advance reaches pre-defined areas.
The sources anticipated that military operations would begin from the regime’s security and military barriers in the streets of Daraa, reaching the regime forces’ centers across the province in the upcoming days if the factions continued to advance from the north.
One of the dignitaries from Daraa al-Balad told Enab Baladi, requesting anonymity for security reasons, that the factions in Daraa are “skilled” in guerrilla warfare but are not capable of direct confrontation with regime forces due to a lack of weapons and personnel.
He added that the forces present, referring to the Eighth Brigade and the Central Committees, are tied to the directives of the regime’s Military Security and are unlikely to move at this time.
The local site Daraa 24 quoted an unnamed source in the Eighth Brigade, who expected the Brigade to announce soon the formation of a “Southern Operations Room” that would include the Eighth Brigade, the Central Committees, and all active local military groups in Daraa.
For several days, protests have erupted in various areas of Daraa governorate in support of the “Deterrence of Aggression” operation launched by opposition factions against regime forces in northwestern Syria, one of which was shot at by regime forces.
A reporter from Enab Baladi in Daraa stated on November 30 that a protest in the city of Inkhil in northern Daraa was shot at by regime forces.
According to local news accounts, including the Horan Free League, cities and towns such as Tel Shihab, Tafas, Nahta, Ma’raba, al-Jiza, and al-Harak witnessed similar demonstrations.
