The minister in charge of the Ministry of Transport in Syria, Bahaa al-Din Sharem, stated that the Syrian skies will be opened to air traffic within the coming hours.

In an interview with Al-Hadath channel on December 12, he mentioned that both Damascus and Aleppo international airports are ready to receive and dispatch flights, with technical staff in place to ensure a smooth resumption of operations.

He added that committees have been formed to repair the damages inflicted on the facilities, including the electrical infrastructure at Damascus Airport.

Preparations are underway to welcome delegations of national missions and Syrians wishing to return to their homeland.

Additionally, efforts are being made to prepare and organize the operations of land border crossings with neighboring countries, with plans for all crossings between Syria and Lebanon to resume next week, as he mentioned in the interview.

The Syria Salvation Government (SSG) confirmed to Enab Baladi today, Friday, December 13, that the operational dates for Damascus International Airport and Aleppo International Airport will be announced in the coming days.

They are also working on equipping civil airports to receive and dispatch aircraft.

The main airports in Syria had suspended their operations following the collapse of the regime of Bashar al-Assad, which led to a halt in flights.

Foreign airlines, including the Lebanese Middle East Airlines, avoided the Syrian airspace after the “Deterrence of Aggression” operation launched by opposition factions, which seized large areas of Syria on December 8.

The Political Affairs Administration of the Salvation Government in Syria announced on December 12 that eight countries have resumed their diplomatic missions, while receiving promises from other countries intending to reopen their embassies in the country.

The Political Affairs Administration thanked Egypt, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Jordan, Bahrain, Oman, and Italy for resuming their diplomatic missions in Damascus through its official channels.

It stated that it received direct promises from Qatar and Turkey to reopen their embassies in Syria, hoping to build good relations with all countries that respect the will of the people, the sovereignty of the Syrian state, and the unity of its territories.
