On Sunday, November 17, the Jordanian government launched an electronic platform to organize and audit travel movements between Jordan and Syria.

The media spokesperson for the Land Transport Regulatory Authority, Abla al-Washah, stated that due to the security conditions surrounding Jordan, particularly regarding smuggling operations at the border, it was essential to organize this process and also verify all travelers through an electronic platform available in Jordan and the other side in Syria.

The new platform requires all travel vehicles to submit requests via this platform to transport passengers.

Al-Washah clarified that the main goal of this platform is to organize the entry and exit of the number of cars by both parties, affirming that the driver would receive approval within three to four days from the date of submitting the request through the platform, according to what the Jordanian news agency Ammon reported.

The Jordanian official added that passenger transport movement to and from neighboring countries is proceeding normally, and there are no obstacles to travel, especially regarding the overland transport of passengers to Syria and vice versa.

Syrians in Syria can enter Jordan through authorized tourist offices affiliated with the Jordanian Ministry of Tourism, which help secure the required guarantee as one of the conditions for Syrians’ entry from Syria and submit a request to the Ministry of Interior to obtain entry approval.

Enab Baladi contacted Super Tours company for transport between Jordan and Syria via the Nassib/Jaber crossing, which clarified that it has allocated daily trips through its buses, with some days seeing more than one trip due to increased demand from Syrians wanting to enter Jordan.

Securing the guarantee is the most important condition for obtaining security approval from the Ministry of Interior, and the guarantor does not have to be Jordanian, but must have a registered residency or a “security card” granted to Syrians.

The processing time for requests at the Jordanian Ministry of Interior to obtain approval takes between 14 and 21 days, after which an entry permit is granted for a maximum duration of one month, according to the Jordanian company that works on securing approval as part of its services.

Jordan has allowed entry for specific categories of Syrians wishing to enter its territory through the Nassib border crossing, including through visa initiatives for “treatment” for individuals over 50 years old, children under 15 years old, and women of all ages, provided that the required documentation to obtain the visa is presented.

Syrians are allowed to enter Jordan for travel through one of the airports in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, provided that they have a visa for the destination country, and they are granted an entry permit for a duration of 24 hours from the time of the flight’s departure.

Syrian investors with an investment amount exceeding 50,000 Jordanian dinars (about 70,000 USD) can also enter Jordan, as well as Syrians married to Jordanian citizens or Syrian women married to Jordanian citizens, provided there is a family statement.

Jordan also allows entry for Syrian doctors with rare specialties, in addition to dentists who have specialized for more than five years, and every traveler is required to pay an entry fee of 28 Jordanian dinars (about 40 USD) at the Jordanian border.

Jordanian authorities reopened the Nassib-Jaber border crossing with Syria in September 2021 for shipping and passenger movement, after it was closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, while adhering to the required security and health measures.
