The city of al-Bab in eastern Aleppo was targeted by rocket shelling originating from areas controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the regime, resulting in injuries among civilians.

A correspondent for Enab Baladi in al-Bab reported that the city was hit on Thursday, October 24, by several rocket shells that struck residential neighborhoods in the center of the city.

According to information obtained by Enab Baladi from two military sources in al-Bab, the shelling originated from the Jabla al-Hamra area east of al-Bab, where the SDF is stationed.

The Syria Civil Defence reported that seven civilians, including four women and a child, were injured, along with material damages to residential buildings in al-Bab resulting from the shelling with rocket shells from SDF and Syrian regime positions.

The attack came just minutes after the SDF announced bombardment of sites where Turkish bases are located, controlled by the Syrian National Army (SNA), supported by Turkey, near the city of Ras al-Ain in northern al-Hasakah, without mentioning the targeting of the city of al-Bab.

In a statement, they said that as part of their “legitimate response” to Turkish attacks on areas under their control, they carried out two successful operations targeting Turkish bases and Turkey-supported factions near the villages of Aniq al-Hawa and al-Dawadiyah in the countryside of Ras al-Ain, resulting in the deaths of several military personnel.

Since Wednesday evening, Turkey has been conducting an air operation targeting SDF-controlled areas in northeast Syria, resulting in fatalities, injuries, and infrastructure destruction, according to official announcements issued by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (the political umbrella for the SDF).

On Thursday morning, the media center of the SDF published statistics of the damages caused by the bombardment, stating that the ongoing strikes have resulted in the deaths of 12 civilians, including two children, and injuries to 25 others, some of whom sustained serious injuries.

They reported that populated areas, bakeries, electricity and oil stations, and Internal Security checkpoints were targets of the warplanes and drone attacks, as well as Turkish artillery shelling that targeted 42 sites, all being vital service and essential facilities, according to the SDF.

The Turkish escalation against the SDF came in the wake of an attack described by Turkish authorities as “terrorist” on the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) in Ankara, which resulted in deaths, injuries, and hostage situations, ending with the deaths of the attackers.

Turkey accused the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) of being behind the attack.

Ankara considers the SDF an extension of the banned party that is listed as a “terrorist” organization in its records.

For his part, Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler announced during a press conference on Thursday that his country’s army had destroyed 47 targets, including 18 in northern Syria and 29 in Iraq, as part of the response to the Ankara attack.

He added that “all facilities and activities of terrorist organizations will be a legitimate target for Turkish forces from now on, as they have been until today.”

The minister noted that military operations will continue “in a firm and relentless manner.”
