Seventeen people were lightly injured and suffered panic attacks as a result of the earthquake that occurred today, Friday, August 16, west of Salamiya city in eastern rural Hama.

The official Syrian news agency (SANA) reported that the Director of the National Hospital in Salamiya, Osama Milhem, said that 12 people were taken to the hospital with bruises and injuries on their bodies due to rushing and falling while trying to quickly leave their homes.

Additionally, five people were treated for panic attacks and nervous breakdowns due to the earthquake, noting that the necessary first aid and treatments were provided to the injured.

The National Earthquake Center announced that seismological stations recorded a quake at 1:15 PM, 28 kilometers east of Hama city, with weak to moderate aftershocks expected in the coming period.

The center announced today, Friday, that an earthquake occurred 4 kilometers west of Salamiya, in Hama province, for the second time in less than a week.

The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center said the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.2, occurring 22 kilometers east of Hama.

According to the National Earthquake Center, the earthquake’s intensity was 4.9 on the Richter scale, occurring at a depth of 3.9 kilometers 28 kilometers east of Hama, and it occurred at 1:15 PM today.

Lebanese media reported that residents of Beirut, Jbeil, and Keserwan felt the earthquake.

A few days ago, the official Syrian news agency (SANA) reported that an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 on the Richter scale struck 28 kilometers east of Hama City, specifically in the city of Salamiya.

On August 13, the agency reported, citing the National Earthquake Center, that the earthquake that occurred just before midnight on Monday had a depth of 3.9 kilometers.

The earthquake was felt by residents of several Syrian provinces, reaching northwestern Syria, and caused a state of panic that prompted some residents to flee to the streets fearing potential aftershocks.

The earthquake’s impact extended to neighboring countries, and the Jordanian Ammon agency reported that Jordanians felt the quake, which was 350 kilometers from the capital, Amman.
