The Israeli army targeted the town of Tseel in western rural Daraa following the launch of two rockets from inside Syrian territories towards the Golan Heights.

The Israeli army spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, stated via his “X” account today, Friday, July 12, that the Israeli army “attacked a terrorist target from which a projectile was launched towards the Golan Heights during the past night hours, which fell in an open area without causing injuries.”

Adraee added that the strike targeted a “military site” in the town of Tseel.

A reporter from Enab Baladi in Daraa mentioned that the Israeli shells landed in agricultural lands without causing human casualties.

The reporter noted that the rockets targeting the Golan were launched from Tel al-Jumou.

Israeli strikes in southern Syria often occur in response to firing sources, and Israel always claims responsibility for these strikes, considering them a response to rockets launched from the area.

One such strike was on June 24th, when Israeli artillery bombarded sites near the village of al-Hamidiya in the central Quneitra countryside, causing material damage.

In a parallel course, Israeli aircraft target sites deep inside Syria, often hitting military locations believed to be managed by Iran, but they do not claim responsibility for these attacks and always ignore questions from the media on this matter.

Who controls Tel al-Jumou?

The site of the recent rocket launches is considered a source of rocket fire towards the occupied Syrian Golan, especially after the beginning of the Israeli escalation in the Gaza Strip following the Al-Aqsa Flood operation launched by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on October 7, 2023.

Former regime Brigadier General Munir al-Hariri, a native of Daraa province residing in Jordan, told Enab Baladi earlier that many military entities are stationed on the hilltop, including regime forces and allied militias.

The “91st Brigade” is stationed at the top of the hill, while the “62nd Brigade” is deployed around and near it.

The top of Tel al-Jumou contains an observation post belonging to the electronic warfare department, according to the defector brigadier general.

It also hosts fighters from militias supported by Iran, most notably the Lebanese Hezbollah, and currently includes Iranian officers and Hezbollah elements positioned at the hilltop.
