The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it had killed a “senior official” in the Islamic State organization during an airstrike conducted in Syria without specifying the exact location.

In a statement on X platform on Wednesday, June 19, the CENTCOM added that it killed Usamah Jamal Muhammad Ibrahim al-Janabi, a “senior official” in the Islamic State organization whose elimination would disrupt the latter’s ability to resource and conduct terror attacks.

According to CENTCOM, the strike occurred last Sunday, indicating that there were no signs of civilian injuries in this strike.

While Washington did not specify the location of the strike or the position of the targeted person, its local partner, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), said the airstrike took place near the city of Afrin in the northern Aleppo province.

Meanwhile, the Syrian Interim Government (SIG), which controls parts of northern Aleppo and parts of its eastern countryside, stated on June 16 that a civilian was killed during SDF shelling targeting the Kuwait al-Rahma camp and others were injured.

Enab Baladi could not reach the Interim Government until the time of publishing this news, and CENTCOM did not respond to the inquiry about the targeting location either.

The International Coalition Forces (ICF), led by the United States, repeatedly conduct military operations either by launching smart missiles from drones or warplanes, or by aerial raids.

Their operations targeted leaders and members affiliated with “Jihadi” organizations and factions in northern Syria or the Islamic State organization.

The latest operations were in April 2023, when the US Central Command revealed the identity of a leader in the Islamic State it targeted in northeastern Aleppo countryside.

CENTCOM stated that it killed the prominent leader in the Islamic State, Abd-al-Hadi Mahmud al-Haji Ali, through a helicopter raid in northern Syria.

In a statement, it mentioned that al-Haji Ali was the leader of the Islamic State in Syria and the operational planner responsible for planning “terrorist” attacks in the Middle East and Europe.

In June 2022, the International Coalition Forces carried out an air raid in the countryside of Jarablus city, northern Aleppo, during which they detained Hani Ahmed al-Kurdi, also known as “Salim” and “Wali of Raqqa,” as reported by the American newspaper The Washington Post at the time.

Also, on July 12, 2022, a former leader in the Islamic State was killed by a US drone strike while he was traveling by motorcycle in areas under the Syrian National Army’s control in northern Aleppo province.
