Human rights report documents 68 civilian killings in Syria during April

Today, Wednesday, May 1, the Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) documented the killing of 68 civilians in Syria during the past April, including 13 children, three women, and nine people due to torture, with documented assaults on vital centers including two schools.

In its monthly report, the responsibility for these killings is shared among the conflict parties and the controlling forces in Syria. The Syrian regime killed 11 civilians, including four children and a woman, while the Islamic State organization killed one civilian. Additionally, eight civilians were killed by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), and six were killed by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), with another civilian killed by armed opposition factions (the Syrian National Army).

The report also documented the killing of 41 civilians, including nine children and two women, by other parties. A massacre conducted by the conflict parties and the controlling forces resulted in the death of seven children from the same family.

At the provincial level, 38% of the total documented casualties in April were from the province of Daraa, the highest percentage among the provinces, with most victims killed by other entities, followed by Idlib and Deir Ezzor, each with about 16%, and Aleppo province, with about 15% of the total casualties.

Victims also continued to fall due to mines planted by unspecified parties, bringing the total mine casualties since the beginning of 2024 to 63 civilians, including nine children and 14 women.

Nine people were killed due to torture, two by regime forces, six by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, and one by armed opposition factions (the Syrian National Army).

Besides five attacks on vital civilian centers, four by regime forces and one by other entities, the total number of this type of assault incident since the beginning of the year is 54, by the controlling parties and forces.

231,000 Dead

On March 15, the Syrian Network for Human Rights in its report issued on the 13th anniversary of the start of the Syrian revolution documented the killing of 231,278 civilians in Syria during this period, 91% of them killed by the Syrian regime forces.

Among the deceased are more than 30,000 children and more than 16,000 women.

According to the SNHR report, Syrian regime forces caused the death of more than 23,000 children and more than 12,000 women, while Russian forces killed about 7000 civilians, including more than 2000 children, and about a 1000 women.
