The Israeli Air Force bombarded a site adjacent to the Iranian embassy in the Mezzeh district of Damascus, resulting in injuries and material damage.

The official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported today, Monday, April 1, 2024, that two civilians were wounded following an Israeli attack targeting several points around the capital of Damascus.

The agency quoted an unnamed military source saying, “The Israeli enemy carried out an air aggression from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting several points in the vicinity of Damascus,” without precisely specifying them.

The attack also caused material damage, according to the agency.

For its part, the Iranian news agency, Tasnim, stated that the targeted site was the consulate building and the residence of the Iranian ambassador in Syria.

The Iranian agency, through the “X” platform, cited unnamed sources regarding the possibility of six fatalities whose identities were not determined.

Locally, Sham FM radio published photos from the target site showing smoke rising from the Iranian embassy building in the Mezzeh area of Damascus, while Al-Madina FM radio station stated that the airstrike targeted a building adjacent to the Iranian embassy.

Activists on social media circulated video recordings showing the damage caused by the Israeli targeting.

Israel has not claimed responsibility for the strike at the time of writing this news, while Israeli media, including Yedioth Ahronoth, merely relayed the news of the targeting from Syrian official media.

Israel frequently targets sites and points in Syria to combat the Iranian military presence on Syrian territory, but rarely acknowledges responsibility for these strikes.

The bombing came after one day of an attack on the Scientific Research Center in the Jamraya area in the countryside of Damascus, which resulted in civilian injuries and marked the third of its kind in two days.

SANA quoted a military source yesterday, Sunday, stating that Israel launched an air attack towards several points around the capital.

On March 28 and 29, Israeli aircraft bombarded sites in Damascus and Aleppo, resulting in more than 40 fatalities, according to security sources not named by Reuters.

For years, Israeli warplanes have launched raids on targets in Syria, and the identity of these aircraft has always been restricted by the announcements made by the Syrian ruling government’s defense ministry, which reveals the source of the bombing after each targeting, but most often ignores the location of the targeting.
