The head of Moscow platform, Qadri Jamil, accused the opposition and regime delegations of derailing the Constitutional Committee’s second round of meetings.

In a press conference in Moscow, on Tuesday 3 December, Jamil said that the two delegations had demonstrated irresponsible behavior during the second round.

According to Jamil, Moscow platform “supports solving matters in Constitutional Committee’s discussions step by step.”

Jamil’s statements were followed by a statement issued by the platform about the political solution being “the only cure.”

The statement said that the second round of the committee’s meetings had been overwhelmed by “pointless media jousting” and “using preconditions pursued as usual by extremists on both sides.”

The second round of the committee was closed on Friday without any meeting being held due to the Syrian regime delegation’s refusal to discuss the items of the constitution in accordance with the agenda proposed by the opposition delegation.

Meanwhile, the regime delegation proposed an agenda to discuss what it called, “the national pillars of concern to the Syrian people” and called for condemning foreign intervention, particularly Turkish, lifting the siege on Syria, and considering everyone who bore arms against the state to be a “terrorist.”

Jamil said that, “not everyone who bore arms against the Syrian state is considered a terrorist,” and that, “terrorists are those who have been internationally categorized”

Jamil recalled for moving the Constitutional Committee’s work to Syria, describing this as an “urgent need,” and saying that all the pretexts for not moving the committee’s work to Syria are “rejected.”

He called the United Nations to give guarantees and to protect Constitutional Committee members in case they head to Damascus.

The Negotiations Committee dismissed the platform’s member in the Constitutional Committee, Mohannad Dliqan, following his proposal in the opening of the Constitutional Committee that its work move to Damascus, which accords with the Syrian regime’s vision.

The Negotiations Committee called the platform to name a replacement before the second round without a response from the platform.

The Moscow platform is accused of carrying out Russia’s agenda under the opposition’s name and impeding the Negotiations Committee’s work, as it has rejected discussing Assad’s fate, a matter which the committee considers to be “fundamental” to any transitional period.
