The Syrian transitional president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, held a meeting with the commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mazloum Abdi, during which the two parties reached an agreement to integrate the SDF into the institutions of the Syrian state.

During the meeting held today, Monday, March 10, an agreement was reached to guarantee the rights of all Syrians in representation and participation in the political process and all state institutions based on competence, regardless of their religious and ethnic backgrounds.

According to the agreement’s provisions, the Kurdish community is an integral part of the Syrian state, and the state guarantees its right to citizenship and constitutional rights.

It was agreed to cease fire across all Syrian territory and to merge civil and military institutions in northeastern Syria under the administration of the Syrian state, including border crossings and oil and gas fields.

The Syrian president and Mazloum Abdi agreed to ensure the return of all displaced Syrians to their towns and villages and to provide their protection from the Syrian state, in addition to supporting the Syrian state in its fight against remnants of the Assad regime and all threats to its security and unity.

According to the text of the agreement, which consists of eight provisions published by the Syrian Presidency through its channels, the parties agreed to reject calls for partition, hate speech, and attempts to incite strife among all components of Syrian society.

The executive committees are working and coordinating to implement the agreement by the end of the current year.

This step comes two days after Mazloum Abdi discussed the agreement with the new Syrian administration in Damascus, excluding military solutions to the outstanding issues.

Abdi added that a delegation from the region, encompassing all its components, will be formed to dialogue with Damascus about the future of the region and the Syrian state, indicating that “the Syrian crisis can only be resolved through Syrian-Syrian dialogue.”

Abdi’s statement came during a meeting held by the SDF in the city of Raqqa on March 7, with the participation of the leadership of the International Coalition supporting it and a number of elders and dignitaries from the cities of al-Tabqa and Raqqa.

Abdi denied the presence of any individuals from “the remnants of the previous regime” in the areas under the control of his forces in northeastern Syria.

This agreement was also preceded by an announcement from the Syrian Ministry of Defense declaring the end of the military campaign on the Syrian coast, after successfully achieving the objectives of the second phase launched to pursue remnants of the Syrian regime.

The ministry’s spokesperson, Colonel Hassan Abdul Ghani, stated, “In keeping with the promise made to our people at the start of the second operational phase, we declare the success of our forces in achieving all the defined objectives for this phase.”

Abdul Ghani added that the Ministry of Defense and General Security Forces were able to absorb the attacks from remnants of the regime and its officers, thwarted their surprise tactics, and managed to push them away from vital centers, indicating that the Ministry of Defense secured most of the main roads that the remnants had used to target civilians.
