Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham’s General Shoura Council in Idleb has appointed Ali Abdel Rahman Kiddeh as president of the Salvation Government after he received two thirds of the votes of the council’s members on Nov. 18, 2019.

By taking up his position, Kiddeh becomes the third president of the government after Mohamed al-Sheikh and Fawaz Hilal, entrusted with forming the third ministerial portfolio.

Kiddeh is from the village of Haranboush in the Idleb countryside, and was born in 1973. He obtained a diploma in military engineering as well as a diploma in electrical engineering with a speciality in IT engineering from Aleppo University.

Kiddeh was imprisoned for seven months by the Syrian regime and after that was involved in education in areas outside regime control, as well as in local councils, the Free Police and other work in Idleb province.

Kiddeh served as deputy interior minister for administrative affairs and public relations in the second Salvation Government.

The General Shoura Council gave Kiddeh 30 days to form a government and to present it to the council to grant it confidence before officially launching their activities.

After the task was assigned to him, Kiddeh told Enab Baladi that he would try to form a new government to attract active, highly-skilled people with proven integrity as part of the new ministerial portfolio.

The Salvation Government president declared his hope that people and the government would be united in terms of working to make the governance of the area administratively and in security terms a success. He said that he would try during his presidency to offer education services as well as raise the level of security and secure the needs of people displaced by bombardment.

The Salvation Government controls major aspects of life in Idleb province, the Hama countryside and the western Aleppo countryside in terms of services and administration. It has established a series of agricultural, educational and economic offices and has started to establish service projects inside the city.

It has also taken over the administration of the crossings with Turkey and with Syrian regime areas, some of which have remained under the control of independent administrations coordinating with it.
