The Maarrat al-Nu’man Local Council has launched an emergency appeal to the humanitarian organizations, demanding the protection of the people displaced from the city’s eastern rural part due to shelling.

In a statement, issued on December 6, the Local Council stated that the Syrian regime’s bombardment of Maarrat al-Nu’manhas led to casualties among civilians and the displacement of more than six thousand families, in addition to other four thousand families that are living in a dire condition with the lacking aid.

The Statement:

In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful,

An emergency appeal to all the humanitarian organizations,

The Assad’s regime and its militias continue their systematic campaign against the eastern countryside of Maarrat al-Nu’man city, targeting, with artillery and missiles, the safe people at their homes and villages, causing massive casualties and destruction.

From this platform, the local council at the city of Maarrat al-Nu’man, hereby, directs an emergency appeal to all the humanitarian organizations and rings warning bells due to the inflation of the humanitarian situation and the increase of the people’s displacement as a result of this shelling.

More than 1000 families have been registered in the last displacement wave, in addition to more than 4000 families that suffer an acute shortage of heating and relief materials, as well as habitable houses.

It also calls on the humanitarian organizations to hurry in presenting what the people need of aid and supplies to alleviate their suffering and shelter them from winter’s cruelty.

The towns and villages in southern rural Idlib have, for a week, been witnessing a massive shelling on the part of Assad’s forces, causing a large wave of displacement to the city of Idlib and its northern rural part, according to Enab Baladi’s correspondent in Idlib.

The Assad’s forces’ shelling is considered a violation of the “Sochi” deal, signed by Turkey and Russia, which provides for the establishment of a demilitarized zone between the areas controlled by the Syrian regime and those held by the opposition in Idlib governorate.

The shelling is focused on the two villages of Jarjnaz and al-Tah and the eastern rural part of Maarrat al-Nu’man city, which triggered the concerned entities to suspend the schools in these areas and forced the people out of them.

The Maarrat al-Nu’man Local Council called on the humanitarian organizations to offer aid needed by the area’s people, including these required for facing winter, under the massive shortage of heating and relief materials, as the statement reported.

In parallel with the shelling, pro-regime news networks reported the arrival of military reinforcements in the northern countryside of Latakia and northern rural Hama as to start a battle against the opposition factions, amidst warnings of the collapse of the “Sochi” and the likelihood of the regime’s launch of an offensive against Idlib.
