More than three thousand families were forced to leave their towns and villages in the eastern countryside of Daraa, as a result of the rocket and aerial shelling, with which Assad’s forces are targeting the area in the frame of their military operation against it.

Enab Baladi managed to get the statistics that documented the displacement movement today, on Saturday, June 23, through which people departed from the towns of Maaraba, Ghasm, Kharaba, al-Musayfirah, Om elmiathin, el-Taebah, Saida, al-Sahwah, Nasib, al-Jiza, Eastern Ghariyah and Elemtaih.

The Head of the Tell Shihab Local Council Yousef Mahmoud al-Hashish said that eastern Daraa is witnessing a massive wave of displacement as a result of the shelling that persisted to the day. The people are heading to the areas that are suffering a lesser degree of bombardment in the eastern countryside of Daraa.

He told Enab Baladi that a portion of the people are based in schools and some houses while the majority of them are yet enduring under the trees, demanding tents to shelter them, without receiving any sort of help from organizations.

The cities and towns of Eastern Daraa are living an intensified shelling on the part of Assad’s forces, in correspondence with their military operations to control the areas held by the opposition factions.

The regime’s affiliate media outlets reported that the shelling is targeting positions of “al-Nusra Front,” under “Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham,” but Enab Baladi’s reporter has stressed that the shelling is targeting the residential neighborhoods in focused manner.

The “Civil Defense Center” in the area of al-Lajat has informed Enab Baladi that ten thousand civilians were displaced from the al-Lajat in the past four days, and eight thousand others have left the city of Busra al-Harir, in addition to 12 thousand civilians who fled the town of Naheta.

The Center referred to the humanitarian situation in the eastern countryside of Daraa as “bad,” pointing out that the people are lacking water due to the shelling that is targeting the residential neighborhoods.

Currently, military confrontations are taking place in the surrounding of al-Lajat area, which Assad’s forces are trying to separate from the rest of the areas in the eastern countryside through controlling the two towns of al-Masikah and Busra al-Harir.

In a statement, Un has toady said that “The attacks have resulted in the displacement of thousands of civilians, the majority of whom are moving towards the Jordanian border”.

It also expressed its concerns over the massive risks that Assad’s forces’ attacks pose to the area’s security.

According to military sources, Assad’s forces have made the decision of the military operation against Southern Syria based on a Russian support and started to prepare housing centers in the areas they are controlling in Daraa to receive the displaced people, as they have formerly done during their offensive on Eastern Ghouta.
