The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned Israeli violations of Syrian territory, the latest of which was the completion of work on the “Sufa 53” line.
In a statement issued today, Sunday, October 4, the Foreign Ministry described the Israeli actions as a “flagrant breach” of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and a clear violation of international legitimacy resolutions.
The ministry said Israel’s continued “aggressive approach,” accompanied by attacks and ground incursions, poses a direct threat to regional security and stability and undermines the provisions of international law.
It called on the international community to take deterrent measures to put an end to these practices and prevent their recurrence, urging it to fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities in safeguarding state sovereignty and respecting the inviolability of borders.
The ministry also reaffirmed Syria’s commitment to its legitimate right to exercise full sovereignty over all its territory, in accordance with the principles of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
Qatari and Jordanian Condemnations
Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned Israel’s resumption of work on the “Sufa 53” line in Syria.
It described the Israeli move as a blatant violation of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and a flagrant breach of international law.
Ministry spokesperson Fuad al-Majali expressed the kingdom’s absolute rejection and strong condemnation of the continued Israeli violations and attacks on Syrian territory.
He stressed the need to halt all Israeli measures targeting Syria, saying they violate the United Nations Charter and Israel’s obligations under the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
Qatar, for its part, condemned what it described as ongoing violations committed by the Israeli occupation in Syrian territory, the latest being the completion of work on the “Sufa 53” line.
It said the Israeli actions constitute a blatant violation of Syrian sovereignty, a flagrant breach of the principles of international law, and a serious threat to regional security.
Jordan and Qatar called on the international community to take urgent action to compel Israel to comply with international legitimacy resolutions, particularly the agreement signed in 1974, and to halt its repeated attacks on Syrian territory to prevent further escalation and tension in the region.
The two countries also reiterated their full support for Syria’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, expressing their solidarity with the Syrian people in their pursuit of security, stability, and prosperity.
Israel Resumes Work on the Line
The Israeli government began on Sunday, October 4, completing fortification and excavation work along the “Sufa 53” line near the villages of Asha and Rafid in the southern Quneitra countryside.
Enab Baladi’s correspondent reported that the Israeli army brought in heavy machinery to continue excavation and fortification work on the project, which began in 2022.
The correspondent added that residents of Asha appealed to the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) and the Austrian contingent operating in the southern Quneitra countryside to intervene and halt the excavation work.
The work has caused significant damage to residents through the seizure of land and uprooting of trees.
Residents have also been prevented from using their agricultural land, while restrictions have been imposed on shepherds.
The “Sufa 53” line runs alongside populated areas in the villages of Asha and Rafid.
What Is the “Sufa 53” Line?
The “Sufa 53” line is a military project established by Israel inside the buffer zone in Quneitra governorate. It extends from the outskirts of Hadar in northern Quneitra, through the central countryside, to the village of Asha in the southern countryside.
The project includes the construction of an eight-meter-wide military road fortified with earthen berms five meters high, in addition to trenches, observation posts, and military fortifications along the boundary between the buffer zone and the occupied Golan Heights.
