The Syrian Foreign Ministry confirmed Syria’s commitment to defending its sovereignty, urging the international community to continue pressuring Israel to comply with the 1974 disengagement agreement and to stop its unlawful attacks on the Syrian people and Syrian territory.

In a statement issued on the evening of Tuesday, March 25, the Foreign Ministry welcomed the statements made by members of the international community in the Security Council, which condemned the repeated Israeli assaults in southern Syria, as these violations constitute a clear breach of international law and a blatant aggression against Syrian sovereignty.

The Foreign Ministry also confirmed that the justifications used by Israel to justify its repeated attacks on Syria have been completely debunked, and it continues unabated.

During the Security Council session on Syria on Tuesday, Russian representative Dmitry Polyanskiy called on Israel to “return to fulfilling its obligations under the disengagement agreement and to withdraw its units from the buffer zone and other Syrian territories occupied since December 2024.”

France also demanded respect for Syrian sovereignty and Israel’s withdrawal from the buffer zone, while China condemned the airstrikes on Syria, urging Israel to withdraw without delay from Syrian territory.

Qatar reiterated its condemnation of the Israeli attacks that violate Syria’s sovereignty, including the assaults in Daraa, through its representative at the Security Council.

The Jordanian representative on behalf of the Arab group in the Security Council condemned the Israeli ground incursion in Daraa, describing it as an escalation of the conflict in the region, calling for an end to the Israeli provocations and Israel’s withdrawal from all Syrian territories it occupies.

The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) condemned the shelling that targeted civilian neighborhoods in Koya in the Daraa countryside, southern Syria, stating in a statement that this “fascist aggression” represents a serious escalation of Zionist violations against Syria and its people, and is a new crime added to the bloodied record of the occupying government.

Qatar condemned the Israeli aggression in a statement from its Foreign Ministry prior to the session, and both Kuwait and Saudi Arabia also condemned it in separate statements.

Earlier, Israel’s acting ambassador to Russia, Alexander Ben Zvi, stated that Israeli movements on the Syrian border are not aimed at invading Syrian territory, claiming they target Hezbollah and Iran.

An Israeli tank shelling on the village of Koya in the Daraa countryside, southern Syria, resulted in the death and injury of at least 15 people, including a girl.

A reporter from Enab Baladi reported that youths from the village of Koya in southern Daraa resisted an incursion by the Israeli army, which responded by opening fire, killing two of them. This was followed by Israeli tank shelling of the village homes with about ten shells, resulting in casualties and injuries among civilians.

The Israeli attacks have caused a massive wave of displacement from the village, affecting 350 families who have been accommodated in temporary shelters in the province.
