Security tensions continue in the Syrian coast with the ongoing campaign launched by the Ministries of Defense and Interior following attacks by remnants of the overthrown Assad regime targeting general security convoys in the villages of al-Daliah and Beit Aana in the countryside of Latakia.

The spokesperson for the Syrian Ministry of Defense, Colonel Hassan Abdul Ghani, stated that his forces began, today Friday, March 7, “a wide combing operation in the city of Jableh and its surroundings to assist the General Security Administration in restoring stability to the city and arresting the remnants of Assad’s militias holed up there.”

After a violent night of clashes between government military and security forces and remnants of the overthrown regime in Latakia and Tartus, today, Syrian Ministry of Defense forces entered the cities of Banias, Tartus, and Latakia to support the General Security Administration efforts in pursuing the remnants of the regime.

Government security forces are conducting combing operations in city centers, villages, towns, and the mountains surrounding Tartus and Latakia.

These operations target remnants of Assad’s militias and their supporters and backers, while urging civilian residents to stay at home and report any suspicious movements immediately.

A leadership source in the General Security Administration called on anyone who wishes to surrender to the judiciary to expedite doing so by heading to the nearest security point.

The aim of these operations is to impose security and stability within the framework of the law, away from revenge, according to what SANA reported from the security operations leadership in the ministry.

Curfew continues

The official Syrian news agency (SANA) reported that a leadership source in the General Security Administration in Latakia announced that the curfew in the city has been extended until 9 AM tomorrow, Saturday.

The Tartus governorate also announced the extension of the curfew in the city until 10 AM Saturday, allowing people to go out for Friday prayers and during the hour before iftar until the conclusion of the Taraweeh prayer.

In light of these developments, university exams in Tartus, scheduled for next Saturday, have been postponed to a later date to be determined.

Supportive protests

In various Syrian governorates, citizens participated in protests in Homs, Hama, Aleppo, rural Damascus, Damascus, Daraa, and Quneitra, supporting the Syrian leadership and endorsing efforts to enforce state authority over all Syrian territory.

Meanwhile, the Saudi Foreign Ministry confirmed in a statement its support for the Syrian government in its efforts to maintain security, stability, and preserve civil peace.

The final statement from the ministerial meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council condemned all acts of violence aimed at destabilizing Syria.

In the same context, the Syrian Islamic Council called on all Syrians to stand against the remnants of Bashar al-Assad and resist them, “in condemnation of their crimes and in aid of the state and under its banner against the enemies of our country, preserving civil peace and national unity.”
