Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani stated that Syria has been facing since the first day of the fallen regime’s downfall a hidden and declared war aimed at breaking the will of the Syrian people and defeating them in the fields of security, politics, and governance by spreading chaos on one hand and attempts of political closure abroad on the other.
On Friday, March 7, al-Shibani added, commenting on developments in the Syrian coast since Thursday, that Syria has broken these attempts many times and has restored its position in the region and the world.
The Syrian people have shown unique awareness and national sentiment, according to al-Shibani, by uniting and protecting national interests and standing behind their leadership, especially in areas that the outside world betted on.
The minister’s statements coincide with military operations by the ministries of defense and interior in the Syrian coast, following attacks and ambushes launched by former fighters of the Assad regime’s forces.
The government forces managed to regain control over many sites where remnants of the Assad forces were active, but faced criticism and recorded footage showing violations against civilians.
Al-Shibani pointed out via “X” that the new Syrian leadership has taken prudent steps since the first day of the Assad regime’s fall to enhance security, stability, and civil peace, expressing a national vision that paves the way for building a dignified homeland that represents all segments of the Syrian people, ensuring their participation and representation within the balance of law, rights, and duties.
“The Syrian people have regained the rule of their country after more than fifty years of exclusion and tyranny, and every Syrian household has sacrificed for this moment with all it possesses, and what happened yesterday cannot succeed in a state where its army is the people themselves,” added the Syrian Foreign Minister.
He also expressed his wish for “mercy for the martyrs of the security and military institutions, a speedy recovery for the injured, and punishment and accountability for those involved in this great betrayal,” as he put it.
Qatari and Jordanian support for Damascus
For its part, the Qatari Foreign Ministry condemned, in a statement, what it described as “crimes of lawless groups” targeting security forces in Syria.
Doha confirmed its solidarity and support for the Syrian government and its efforts to consolidate civil peace and maintain security and stability in the country.
The Qatari Foreign Ministry reiterated its support for Syria’s sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity and for realizing the aspirations of the Syrian people for freedom, development, and prosperity.
The Jordanian Foreign Ministry also affirmed Jordan’s standing with Syria, its security, stability, unity, and sovereignty.
Spokesperson Sufyan al-Qudah condemned all attempts, groups, and external interventions targeting the security and peace of Syria and its security institutions, which try to push Syria toward chaos and strife.
Al-Qudah emphasized his country’s support for the Syrian government in all measures it takes to protect Syria’s security, stability, and the safety of its people, as well as to maintain law and civil peace.
He stressed the need for concerted efforts to support Syria in rebuilding the new Syrian state based on principles that protect its unity, security, stability, sovereignty, and preserve the rights of Syrians.
The operations of the ministries of interior and defense continue with security sweeps in the governorates of Latakia and Tartus since Thursday, in response to attacks carried out by the remnants of the Assad regime, which targeted security forces in the countryside of Latakia, resulting in casualties and injuries.
