The number of people coming from Lebanon to Syria since September 24 has reached 528,000, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
The commission mentioned in a report released yesterday, Thursday, November 14, that 142,703 families (528,000 people) entered Syria, among them 255,000 individuals under the age of 18.
The organization “Save the Children” estimated the number of children fleeing from Lebanon to Syria in the past seven weeks to be around 300,000 children.
Syrians make up about 70% of those returning from Lebanon, while Lebanese and other nationalities represent the remaining percentage.
Save the Children stated that no less than 1.2 million people have been displaced in Lebanon, which is one-fifth of the total population, since the intensification of Israeli strikes.
The United Nations has provided protection services to 81,613 people who came from Lebanon to Syria through 114 of its centers.
The largest number of displaced Lebanese and returning Syrians is concentrated in Rif Dimashq province, followed by Homs, with the rest of the provinces following.
In addition, they are spread throughout northeastern and northwestern Syria.
The commission noted that airstrikes targeting various areas in Syria pose a danger to the commission and its staff, partners, and the public, affecting the entry of individuals from Lebanon to Syria.
Israel has been conducting almost daily airstrikes inside Syrian territory and has intensified its bombings in recent weeks along the border region from both the Syrian and Lebanese sides.
According to the commission, the targeting of the Jousiyeh border crossing located in the western countryside of Homs on November 2 led to a reduction in the flow of displaced persons from Lebanon to about 100 families daily.
The United Nations recorded more than 47 Israeli airstrikes on various sites in Syria within a period of not exceeding two months, from September 26 until November 11 of the current year.
The airstrikes that targeted southern rural Homs numbered 29, while at least 18 airstrikes hit border crossing points between Lebanon and Syria.
The Israeli army has recently intensified its strikes on sites in Syria in a clear attempt to cut off weapon supplies to the Lebanese Hezbollah.
Uncharacteristically, Israel has acknowledged several of the strikes it carried out in regime-controlled areas.
Along the border, there are illegal crossings that have been used in recent years for human trafficking, smuggling of goods and weapons, and captagon pills, alongside six legal crossings used for commercial transactions and civilian passage.
In this context, Israel talked about “imposing a military blockade on Lebanon” to prevent the smuggling of Iranian weapons to Hezbollah by land and air, according to the Times of Israel.
