The Ministry of Defense in the Syrian Interim Government (SIG) issued a statement today, Saturday, April 27, confirming the arrest of the perpetrators of the attack that took place on the night of April 24.
The statement, addressed to the press and public audience, stated that the institutions affiliated with the ministry had arrested those who carried out what was described as the “heinous attack” on the al-Mutasim Division, part of the Second Legion in the Syrian National Army (SNA), which resulted in the injury of the brigade’s commander, Al-Mutasim Abbas, and the death of his brother.
The statement also noted that the perpetrators were handed over to the military judiciary to conduct an independent investigation by the Ministry of Defense and the military judiciary regarding the allegations made by the assailants against the brigade’s commander and its officials.
No person or group has the right to trial in the area except for the independent courts that belong to the judicial system of the Interim Government, according to the statement.
Yesterday, Friday, the Levant Front in the Syrian National Army arrested leader Mustafa Sejari in the city of Azaz in northern Aleppo countryside, following a dispute within the ranks of the al-Mutasim Division.
The arrest came after a dispute between Sejari, other leaders, and the al-Mutasim Division and its commander Al-Mutasim Abbas, which escalated into accusations and turned a meeting between them, on April 24, into clashes that resulted in Al-Mutasim Abbas’s injury and his brother’s death.
In relation to the validity of issuing arrest and detention warrants by the military police against Mustafa Sejari, Alaeddin Ayoub (Al-Farouk Abu Bakr), Mohammad al-Daher, Mohammad Ayoub, and Jamil Lala, Director of the Military Police, Brigadier General Khalid al-Asaad confirmed to Enab Baladi the existence of such warrants related to the killing of Ahmad Abbas and the injury of his brother Al-Mutasim Abbas.
Sejari and Al-Farouk Abu Bakr accused Al-Mutasim Abbas of financial corruption, coordination with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) to carry out assassinations in the Aleppo countryside, building a financial empire, and smuggling weapons to Libya.
In response, the al-Mutasim Division considered the accusations completely unfounded, stating that what was supposed to be a session to resolve some issues turned into betrayal, an assassination attempt, and the arrest of Al-Mutasim Abbas by leader Mustafa Sejari.
Today, Al-Mutasim Abbas arrived in the city of Marae, coming from Turkey after being transferred there for medical treatment, as his brother was also mourned and buried.
