This is not a regular water truck performing its normal function. But rather a house for a mother and her children from Abad village in the southern countryside of Aleppo. Ahmed al-Ali, in the center of the picture, is the elder brother and the family breadwinner. The harsh challenges of life deprived Ahmed of his childhood, as he and his family could not afford a tent to shelter them. Ahmed used to work as a mechanic before arriving in the “al-Othman” IDPs camp north of Idlib province. After he had lost his source of income along with his family’s severe living condition, Ahmed thought of a solution in which he can make use of his skills driven by his love for his profession. With his little fingers, Ahmed cut this water truck. And turned the water truck into a home for his family. However, Ahmed’s actual dreams have not been achieved yet. Ahmed’s greatest wish is to secure a shelter for his family, and then return to his village to work in mechanics and provide for his family since the death of his father.
